Brian James Passes

Sad news! There's a report on one of the VO sites that Brian James passed away at 4 this morning at his home in Scottsdale, AZ after suffering a heart attack.

James is one of radio's most enduring and popular imaging voices and if I'm not mistaken - he's been the voice of WBEN for a number of years. He also voices dozens and dozens of other stations across the country.

A legend.

I didn't know he was only 47. He did all of the WFLZ/Tampa liners even dating back to the "Power Pig" days. Also the "Bubba The Love Sponge" show.

Sad.

I don't recognize the name! Is this the guy who's the image voice for stations like WLW, WTAM, WHAM , etc. And once did imaging for WVOR during their Mix 100.5 days?

Condolences to Brian James' family. The man had great pipes and his delivery, especially for news-talk stations, set the tone for the station, whether it was WBEN, WFLA or any of the countless stations that used him. After hearing about James' death, I listened to WBEN and pondered his legacy. To hear of a man passing at such a young age challenges us in many ways.

Indeed, this is such sad news. I, too, didn't recognize the name when I saw the subject line. But that voice! He was a key part of the sound of WBEN. So, when I hear him proclaim, "WBEN, Buffalo, New York, United States of America," I'll keep a good thought. My sympathies to Brian's family.
