Brian Mcknight show..... The end

Brian Mcknight syndication show (from WRKS New York 7pm to midnight) will end on January 22 2010.

Wow, I thought that show was actually doing pretty good, I heard it on a number of smaller market stations around the country. I guess Keith Sweat wins that battle, his show is on ALL OVER THE PLACE. Bring Back Mel DeVonne.

This is actually good news about both Doug Banks and Brian McKnight, it means that some locally programmed shows might end back on in a few markets or at least nonsyndicated shows with jukebox music and no DJs.

I was just thinking what this and the Banks move could mean for Citadel's committment to keep the The Touch Urban AC satellite service (formerly owned by ABC Radio) going. Those shows are the afternoon and evening dayparts of the Touch. Citadel is bleeding right now, even more than Clear Channel I think. If the Touch disappeared, urban radio might disappear from a number of smaller markets without an equivalent satellite service available. The only option would be local urban programming (that wouldn't be bad at all, though many local owners might not choose to pursue it and instead might try other syndicated formats like Talk, etc).

I just think it is hard for a artist to host a radio show. He may have the pipes and all that, but can they really entertain over the airwaves. Entertaining an tangible audience is not the same as entertaining an intangible audience.

Honestly, this is great news. Hopefully, this will lead to a local on-air jock in afternoons and nights. Reason being way too many Urban AC stations were 90% syndicated. Here's a pefect example..

Station 1
6am-10am: Tom Joyner Morning Show (syn)
10am-3pm: "Live Local DJ" (local)
3pm-7pm: Michael Baisden (syn)
7pm-12am: Keith Sweat (syn)

Station 2
6am-10am: Steve Harvey Morning Show (syn)
10am-3pm: "Live Local DJ" (local)
3pm-7pm: Doug & Dee Dee (syn)
7pm-12am: Brian McKnight (syn)

I like to listen to a lot of streaming Urban AC stations from medium to smaller markets around the South. It is just amazing how most have only local middays now as has been posted. It really wasn't like up to a few years ago. I agree this could be very good news.
