Bridge Ratings: HD radio reaches 450,000 weekly users

"Only 150,000 HD radios sold so far"

http://www.radio-info.com/smf/index.php/topic,69166.msg495650.html#msg495650

"If you build it will they come?" October 2006

"During the NAB, iBiquity head Bob Struble reportedly indicated that there are "less than 100,000 HD radio chipsets sold" to date and, as has been much better publicized, 1,000 or so HD stations across the country. [EDIT]

"2007 Competitive Media Usage Overview Update"

"57 million Americans listen to some form of Internet Radio in a typical week according to our interviews. Satellite radio's nearly 15 million subscribers accounts for nearly 5% of the U.S. population and HD radio reaches 450,000 weekly users."

"More Stations, better sound, no subscription fee."

So, if we take the 150,000 HD radios sold so far (minus returns) as a true figure (Struble also admitted that sales of HD radios have been in the low 100,000s), according to Bridge Ratings 450,000 people are listening to HD Radio each week. With Clear Channel streaming HD Radio on-line, we can assume that 300,000 are listening on-line, instead of purchasing expensive HD radios.

NOBODY HAS ACCURATE SALES FIGURES YET! 450,000 listeners is pretty phenomenal. JVC sells a helluva lot of car stereos, and one of their most popular models has HD. THAT accounts for a bunch of 'em.

"YOU" can assume that. Of course you'd be wrong. Those listening to those entertainment sources you refer to are listening to internet radio.

You continue to assert that there are "NO" HD radios being sold. Do you really think there have been ZERO sales since the NAB show? You can continue to cling to your beloved 150K number, but even you would have to admit it has gone up since then, right?

I listen to my HD radios and to radio online, so you can count me in for both statistics.

When available, I'd rather listen over the air than slow up my internet connection streaming audio. 8)

"HD Radio: The Battle for Your Mind"

"Thus far it is still the audiophiles and early adopters who show interest and that is where the 'several hundred thousand' units sold comes in to play."

"Internet Radio Outpaces Satellite, HD Radio In Latest Bridge Study"

"Bridge says that HD Radio is the "most disappointing" media covered in their study, as consumer awareness grows but interest in it is slowing. When asked about HD Radio, respondents said they had "little or no interest at this time" as their top answer, followed by "don't see a need" and "not aware of its benefits." Bridge has also adjusted its predictions for HD Radio, expected no more than 500,000 users by the end of this year and just over a million at the start of 2009."

Indeed I am. Satisfied that you have no answer to the question. Please post more links which don't deal with the topic below.

How those 10,000 or less HD radios are reaching 450,000 users is anyone's guess. Again do some checking with retailers that say maybe a dozen radios are sold per store over a year period. Not counting the returns. If there were "real figures" that made the HD radio count look good they would be publishing them.

You are right - the number of HD radios is probably in the ten-of-thousands, including returns.

This is great. In the last two messages you two have effectively established a new sales figure for HD radio. It's based of "Ray's" made up assertion of 10,000 radios and Pocket's "You are right - the number of HD radios is probably in the ten-of-thousands, including returns."

There's no information, no data, no reference but now it's so. All this glory on a regurgitated thread that has had no activity in over a month.

Beautiful.

1349 HD Stations as of this AM BTW.
