Brilliant Lyrics

Here are the lyrics of the new release by Travis Denning on Mercury Records. You must admit that these lyrics didn't come from shallow thinkers. Perhaps the most amazing part is that it took four people to write this:

Where That Beer’s Been

Produced by Jeremy Stover
Written by Travis Denning, Rhett Akins, Chris Stevens and Jeremy Stover

I don’t know who bottled it up or who put on that label
All I know is I ordered it up and it’s sittin’ on my table
Who knows how many trucks it hitched a ride on
How many shelves it spent the night on
‘Fore they put it on ice

That's country music. Drinkin' and cheatin.' Here's another lyric. Guess the writer:

Tonight the bottle let me down
And let your memory come around
The one true friend I thought I'd found
Tonight the bottle let me down

^^^ Go here to check out LeAnn Rimes covering that song! To me, she sings the song the way that it should've been done from the very beginning!

God bless you and LeAnn always!!!

Holly (a day one fan of her)

I'd rather be hearing lyrics like those than empowering lyrics or boring stories.

I just like the way country music sounds, but if I have to like lyrics too, that's what I will like.

Though I don't drink or cheat.

^^^ I second what you say. I don't drink and the only cheating I am guilty of is on my diet.

God bless you always!!!

Holly

P.S. You said the word "stories" which brings me to another thing that makes country music stand apart from other forms of music. So many songs in the country music field tell a story.

Driving through Western Massachusetts a couple of days ago and listening to classic country WPVQ, I heard this minor Johnny Paycheck hit from the late '70s, "Drinkin' and Drivin," with lyrics that would never even get recorded today:

Five dollars worth of regular, three dollars worth of wine
Just hand me a road map, show me the state line
I got the blues on my bumper, Lord, I gotta leave 'em behind
Yeah, I'm gonna drink and drive that woman right off of my mind.

Compare country lyrics from 1949:
"The silence of a falling star lights up a purple sky,
And as I wonder where you are, I'm so lonesome I could cry."

To country lyrics from 2021:
"Bougie like Natty in the styrofoam
Squeak-squeaking in the truck bed all the way home"

Sad.
