Fellow dissidents,
This is an open letter to all the folks who, for the past 20 months, have doggedly pursued Press Broadcasting and Hit106's advertisers, pushing them to see just how much of a losing proposition it was to support Hit106.
You won!
Ding dong, the witch is dead! That's it! Game over! Everyone out of the pool! Hit106 has ceased to exist! It has passed on! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! It is...an ex-format!
They all lived happily ever after. Fade to black.
...aaaand...now what?
There was never any way Press Broadcasting was going to support a resurgent G-Rock. For one thing, corporate types (especially small-business owners, which is what they really are) never, ever like to admit mistakes. They sure as heck weren't about to turn tail and admit they were wrong about the audience they so firmly castigated for being "uncountable". It's always someone else's fault, isn't it?
(Heh, turns out their hit radio audience was even less countable.)
For another thing, why should any self-respecting fan of G-Rock want Press Broadcasting to run the new version? "You ran this radio station into a ditch, and by God, we want you to do it again!" Sorry, but that way lies madness, and worse, continuing to pursue it makes the Bring Back G-Rock movement look like the psycho ex-date of the radio industry. It's destructive. Let's focus elsewhere.
So, if I can humbly suggest an outlet for all the energy that was expended on protest, boycotts, and general hate...
It's time to go positive. When you do something, try and build rather than destroy. Here's a list of things that are worthy of your energy and support:
- Listen to Shore Alternative at 94.3 HD2, they're at http://shorealternative.com. They're alternative rockers.
- Listen to Altrok 90.5 HD2, we're at http://wbjb.org/altrok. We're alternative mods.
- Listen to 90.5 The Night at http://90.5thenight.org. They do rock radio done the way commercial stations forgot.
Seriously, ONE of us will be playing something you want to hear. Bookmark us. Get an HD Radio, too: $25 or so gets you a refurbished HD radio at Overstock.com that I've personally been really happy with...though I'll warn you, it's definitely the Early Days for the technology, and it's not entirely bug free. If you can stand being on the cutting edge of music, though, come with us to the digital side and see what awaits.
And TELL PEOPLE you're doing it! When you're at a shop, strike up a conversation. Tell your friends. Advocate. Evangelize. Don't be silent - communication is the only way the word will get out.
Bump up our numbers, and people will take notice. If one or the other of us makes it into the ratings - *anywhere* in the ratings - people will *definitely* take notice. (One of us may already have...eh, eh, eh...)
You were there in January of '09, when 200 people showed up in 39-degree weather to stand in a parking lot and chant slogans. You've been there bugging Hit106's advertisers to let them know just how bad Hit106's numbers were. Be there for us - all of us - now, and there might be an interesting future on the horizon.
