"Bring Back Jordan" Campaign...

Well, it's been approx. 3 months of pure torture with the *new* format that I & many other find most intolerable. Guest after guest after guest, some canned, some not who are hawking their latest snake oil, book, cd or some such nonsense. Those of you who have read my posts in the past know already how I feel about this.

And I'm not alone. I talk to a good many folk who tell me they have fallen off the Jordan "bandwagon". He has allowed a once great show to turn into utter rubbish. Come on, I know all you guys can't be happy with the new format. After all, don't we all want a "call-in" show?

We can get infomercials anywhere on the dial, don't need them from 'BZ in the form of a "talk show in disguise". While I'm at it, I must say the audio production on the "canned" guests is something awful, with Jordan on that speakerphone or whatever it is that sounds like he is broadcasting from a big empty room, sound bouncing off the walls, echo, etc.

Yeah, while the movie & tv shows aren't exactly my cup of tea, I can tolerate those once in awhile, but the rest of this stuff is mind-numbing sewage. And what's up with the "scripted" callers throughout the show, who just happen to be listening & call in with a book or cd that they have for sale, and interestingly enough it correlates with the previous guest who they always give accolades to as well. What are the chances of that.... Give me a break. ::)

Hey, the "Bring Back Steve" campaign worked out with great results, maybe a similar campaign could work for Jordan as well. Who's up for that? Who wants Jordan back, the way things used to be, say 5 + years ago? Being the only live voice in this market with nothing else on the dial to listen to, we NEED him back, the way it used to be...

Relax. He's starting fresh and all over again tonight as he welcomes the creator of "The Phonics Game."

I'm with Katz... it's excruciating to listen to. You figure with the death of Larry Glick, Jordan might have taken a night to reflect on his career with people who might not have heard Steve's Thursday night program.

I don't know that this IS the case, but it very well might be: Have you thought of the possibility that WBZ is no longer paying Jordan for his time? In fact, they may now be CHARGING him for the time! Maybe he HAS to have "guests" who pay for the privilege of being on the air with him because what he gets from the guests minus what he pays to WBZ for the air time constitutes his gross income from the program. (I know that he has a separate business that constitutes his "day job," but I can't imagine that he wants the radio program to be little more than an expensive--and time-consuming--hobby.) If he has guests who don't pay him, he may wind up going out of pocket to be on the air. I doubt whether he'd continue the program for very long under those conditions.

We don't know if this is the case either, unless you are posting information that you know more about than the rest of us. Yes, that is possible about Jordan; I kinda doubt it though - it just doesn't feel right. And if that is the case, it would be nice for Jordan to come clean one way or another. I know he may be under a "gag" order from 'BZ, but there are ways that he could *leak* the info. out to let us know what is going on.

Also, my gripe is not with Jordan as a person, but simply the format of the show. He is a great guy, wonderful individual, and deserves to share more of himself with the audience, "personally", instead of thru guests & their useless information. (for the most part) As mentioned in my first post the "bring back Steve" campaign was a success;

If 'BZ bowed to listener/advertiser pressure on that one, surely it is not so much of a stretch to do the same in Jordan's case. It could happen.

I don' really care enough, but I thought I'd play devil's advocate here.

katzradio, what would you have Jordan do? It seems like when he does try and do open lines he gets 1 of 6 people and it can't be sustained. Is hearing Bob from Raleigh talk about nothing any better than hearing an author talk about his book? He can only make fun of Mary from Kittery for so long.

I'm just saying, since you seem to be the most critical of JR around here, what would you have him do? Program a hypothetical show and explain why it would be better.

Yes that would be better than hearing an author talk about his book. Infomercials are not my thing. If you have followed my prev. posts over the last couple of years, you would understand the situation better.

Approx. 5 + years ago, Jordan basically did an "open line" show all night long. At that time he had many regular callers, just as Steve does. The reason he gets so few calls now is that most of the regulars have pretty much stopped listening. They already know that he isn't going to do open lines, so why bother listen.

Most folks aren't interested in listening to his guest for 45 min., & then at the end of the hour Jordan tries to cram in a couple of hasty calls between the commercials.

I tune in & out because I am up at those hours, but I do find myself going to WGN more & more. Brian Noonan is a real hoot! KMOX is now playing Old Time Radio shows for much of the night, & while that is not live radio, it is certainly better than listening to babble about buying the latest book, creme, supplement, etc. of the month.

You misunderstand, Father Reid; I am not critical of JR; I am critical of the lousy show format. JR has read my prev. posts, & we exchanged a couple of emails, which pretty much went nowhere. But, if enough folks would get behind this movement, maybe we would possibly get the old format back.

Wishful thinkin'...

If this were the case, though, wouldn't they have to disclose that fact on the air?
