To: Cox Radio
Dear Cox Radio,

We are requesting that you bring back the Radio Station, The New Party 93-1 South Florida's Pure Dance Channel that all of us listened to so loyally. Party 93-1 was a pioneer cutting edge radio station that actually became the first major Dance Music radio station in the United States. In time, this station would have brought major credibility to the Cox Radio name as it had already gained a large portion of South Florida's radio listeners, with such a bold format none the less. Dance Music is a format growing rapidly across the U.S. amongst fans ranging from 19-44, especially in South Florida. Sadly, when it was taken off the air, the progressive mainstream youth of South Florida was left with no radio station to cater to their musical tastes. Their only options were Hip-Hop, Rock, and Top 40. Let Cox Radio be the company to embrace this revolutionary form in music and be a leader in the United States Dance movement. Please give us back our station!

The Bring Back Party 93-1 Petition to Cox Radio was created by South Florida and written by Charles Cavalli ([email protected]).

For those with myspace a Party fan created a 931 myspace support page.

Nice thought, but I seriously doubt it'll happen. Cox changed the format for a reason or 2. 93 Rock, while not the most explosive format on the South Florida dial, really just needs tuning up to work (how much is just a matter of opinion, as is this post). This was the nitch they jumped on when Zeta4 or Zeta 93.9 turned to El Mega y Mijami Mang.

IF and this is a big IF...Party 93.1 was that viable a format & well listened to, then one of the stations (ie: Power, The Y, WEDR) would have altered their formats to pick up on the listeners that were abandoned. Pure dance formats just don't cut it here. I know that from experience (Disco96).

It's nice to have faithful people like Charles, but in the real radio world, it's rare that the ownerships bow down and do it.

Yeah... at the same time you were enjoying WPYM, we were protesting to bring back classical WTMI, which Cox had taken from us (and flipped to WPYM) after 30 years, 9 moinths, and two weeks. Didn't help.

Plus, and this is just me nitpicking, Party was not the first major dance music station in the U.S. New York's 103-5 KTU started it all (especially if you care to go so far back as the 92 KTU days), and while the newer incarnation of the station has always been more gold-focused, let's not forget Energy 92-7&5 in Chicago, the station that was truly the first modern currents-based dance format in the country. Of course we also have C-89.5 in Seattle and WMPH in Wilmington (DE), both of which were doing the dance thang quite some time before Party was even thought of. While I'd love very few things more than to see Party brought back, it'd be nice to acknowledge the facts as they truly are in this petition. Party was a cutting-edge station in it's first year or so, but it wasn't the first of it's kind.

Again, just me picking nits.

The one major difference is....THIS IS SOUTH FLORIDA & THE RULES DON'T APPLY. This has for the most part, always been a very fickle market and what may be gold thru the rest of this country musicwise, can be an accident waiting to happen here. It goes the opposite way to. I've seen monster things here in radio and a total flop around the rest of the country.

It is what it is.......

Dont forget Party 95-3 WPYO in Orlando, from 1999-2003. i think it was Cox's first Dance music station experiment thing.

Does Cox have any other Dance stations in the U.S ?? Im curious to know what they, if any sound like.

Thats why you guys need to support THe Metro New York Dance Music Radio Coalition. We need all the help we can to get Dance Music Back On The Air across the USA.

This may just be the one, final thing that drives me to sign up at MySpace. I've been trying to hold out as long as I can without one... but too many things I like and care about are networked at the site.

I jumped the shark on the Myspace bandwagon a few weeks ago via selected links from my own web site, and I've been able to access everything that I've wanted to access on there without actually becoming an official member of their cult club web site.

As far as me creating my own Myspace site - NO - I haven't done that yet. I've got to join the club to do that. I'm not ready to do that yet.
