Bring Back Sunday Night Classics

Please email, snail mail or call KKGO (Mt. Wilson Broadcasting) regarding the recent cancellation of Sunday Night Classics with Jimmy Kay & Jeffrey Smart. This show, on from 9-midnight on Sundays was a truely unique show featuring classic, rarely heard country music & 2 friendly, intelligent guys who very definitely knew country music & were willing to share that knowledge. Saul Levine, owner of Mt. Wilson said "3. Restore pride in radio. Employ people who love radio and believe radio is the greatest entertainment medium in the world.

4. Think outside the box. Provide programming that is daring and imaginative, and respect the intelligence of your audience" Sunday Night Classics fits into both those catagories. Contact information is:

On country radio it seems the older classic country artists have been excluded, despite the fact that many of these artists, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris and others are still actively a part of the performing artists of country and still releasing new recordings.
When you listened to Sunday Night Classics you were listening to REAL Classic Country… not the watered down stuff!
Radio personality Jimmy Kay along with his producer Jeffery Smart played music straight from the heart, the songs chosen during Sunday Night Classics on KKGO Go Country were those that touched the listeners, whether it be through laughter, historical tales, or fun.
Sunday night classics was a show with a wide audience playing classic country from the '20s, thru the '70s… children’s songs, country gospel, bluegrass, Americana, Western Swing, Southern Gospel and more.
The funny songs about taxes, dogs, trains, farm animals ... you name it, they've played it. Many songs everyone loved and some they were hearing for the first time. Jimmy Kay was quick to answer e-mails always taking requests and doing his best to find the music his listeners asked for.
He also introduced his listeners to undiscovered singer-songwriters when he would play his Sunday Night Classics Discoveries.
Many artists have sent in music submissions and Jimmy Kay and Jeffery Smart would listen to EVERY CD sent to them searching for the songs that would be something that would appeal to the large audience of people his show was heard by.
Jimmy Kay shared information about all the songs and artists he played, if you wanted to know the history behind the music he was the go to guy on classic country with a vast knowledge of the music classic country fans love to listen to.
Jimmy Kay once told his listeners, "I loved to sing songs around the campfire every summer when I went to River Way Ranch Camp…. I love to play music which reminds people of their childhood memories and to expose them to ideas which they may not have ever even considered before."

As of November 30th 2008 this great show is no longer a part of the KKGO Sunday night programming.

Help Bring This Show Back to KKGO:
This is a very sad time for the classic country fans in Southern California as there is no other outlet available on terrestrial radio in Southern California where the classics can be heard. Many country fans have joined together in an attempt to bring Sunday Night Classics with Jimmy Kay and Jeffery Smart back to the airwaves on Sunday Nights at KKGO.

There are e-mail addresses and the snail mail address listed above to contact the station above, IF you are a Classic Country Music fan in Southern California OR a fan who would like to have an opportunity to again stream Sunday Night Classics from Go Country KKGO’s website please join us in this endeavor to reinstate a 3 hour radio show that touched the lives of loyal listeners each Sunday night.

Other ideas include:
Social Network Idea:
There are many social network sites on the internet such as Myspace, Twitter, Facebook and SO many more... use them to post a blog, a bulletin and ALSO if possible Post an event... let people know the EVENT is writing letters to KKGO... Event Date should be the Sunday following your event post.
Send the invite to ALL of your friends on your list and let them know that all it will cost them is time at the computer appealing to KKGO to bring Sunday Night Classics with Jimmy Kay back on the air.

Blogs:
There are MANY blogging sites all over the internet. If you are a member of a site like blogspot, blogger etc consider posting a blog on those sites in regards to assistance in bringing Jimmy Kay and Sunday Night Classics back to KKGO.
By posting to these blogs sites more classic country fans nationwide will know about what a great show Sunday Night Classics with Jimmy Kay was and perhaps will join in an appeal to KKGO to reinstate Sunday Night Classics.
People who learn about the show may tune into the show if local or stream the show via the Go Country website should it be returned to the air ... SO KKGO would be adding to their listenership by returning the show to the airwaves!

Thank you for considering adding your assistance in supporting Classic Country Fans in Southern California.

There's always 1350 AM.

I think the issue is that Mr. Cook has something different in mind for the time slot. Something that gets better ratings. I'm a fan of old country and new country, but the show sounded nothing like the rest of KKGO in the production department. Maybe too small town sounding for LA?

1350AM does not, in my opinion have a good enough signal for most of the listeners of this show.

There are a vast group of listeners that enjoyed the original mainstream country sound of KKGO when it was on the AM and when first moved to FM... now much like KZLA the sound on KKGO is mostly current "hot country" with classic country sprinkled in there from time to time. That being said, when they do sprinkle in the classic country it is recurrent sounds rather than songs that are not often heard on even stations that are labeled classic country.

Mr. Cook put Night Shift another NON-hosted show into that time slot...

KKGO Sundays before 9am are full of non-country "stuff":
5:00am - 6:30am Public Affairs
6:30am - 7:00am Tuned In with P.J. Ochlan
7:00am - 8:00am Paid Programming
Sandwiched between music with no radio personality until 9AM with Melody Morgan.

They took Big Time with Whitney Allen off the air weeknights to go "live and local" yet now during the time slot she once played is night shift, on air programming with no host... what about the people that like to call in and talk to the radio personalities, make requests, be a part of contests...

My hope is that KKGO will reconsider and bring Sunday Night Classics with Jimmy Kay back to it's airwaves.
I also hope that fans of classic country, their family and friends will contact KKGO and request its return as well as signing the petition created for this purpose.

If Saul Levine was ever interested in what listeners actually wanted, he would not have made so many format changes over the years. I don't think he is interested in your petition ::)

Although KKGO may not be interested in the petition or the letters and phone calls or anything that classic country fans their family and friends are doing.
As a classic country music fan and a fan of Jimmy Kay I will do my part in letting the station as a whole know what I would like, make an effort in asking him to reconsider having taken the show off the air and hope for the best.
Regardless of what the station does, I can say that others and myself tried to stand up for a show we believe in and gave it our best shot to ask KKGO to return Sunday Night Classics with Jimmy Kay to the airwaves.

I think the issue is Mr. Cook is interested only in Nashville pop. How in the world anyone could expect "Nightshift" to gain higher ratings than Sunday Night Classics is beyond me...that show is nothing but an iPod. I never missed Sunday Night Classics...I found it very informative, interesting, & friendly...qualities sadly lacking in most of the rest of KKGO's programming. Only shows left worth anything are Paul Freeman & the live weekend crew.

He's only changed the format on 105.1 once in the last 19 or 19 years. The AM (which he's changed many times) doesn't count, hardly anyone listens to it. I'm no country fan, at least he's providing it to LA when no one else would.

Congrats on being the number one Country music station in the Country. It doesn't mean so much due to LA's size. Everything is Number ONE or TWO here except for NPR and PBS.

I am very grateful to Saul Levine for a country radio station in LA, My disappointment is in his changing the station into another KZLA instead of keeping the playlists and personalities that set it apart from other stations.
As you said... EVERYTHING is #1 or 2 in LA because of the population... but this station could be truly an AMAZING country station if Saul would stand behind much of what he said when he started the station as a country station.
As I have repeatedly said, I just hope fans and friends of classic country fans will write letters, and sign the petition in support of bringing back a GREAT country show with a GREAT radio personality.

If there are members here on radio-info.com that are fans of classic country, I hope that they will contact KKGO and request the return of Sunday Night Classics with Jimmy Kay as well as signing the petition created for this purpose.

The return of Sunday Night Classics to KKGO Go Country 105 would be a GREAT year end or new years gift to the fans of Classic Country and Jimmy Kay.

Thank you to ALL that have helped in this endeavor, it is greatly appreciated!
