Bring back the Power 96 of the late 80s/90s

This was arguably back in the station's heyday...

They had greats like Tanner in the morning, Cox on the Radio, Mindy and Bo, Tyrone, a young DJ Laz, Kid Curry, Tony the Tiger, Felix Sama, Eddie Mix, Rafi Contigo, Jammin Johnny, etc.

I was in elementary school when Power 96 grew into a household name in the early 90s, but I remember them playing such great music over the years, including terrific mixes and the "Power Love Hour" at night. The station was still rolling even in the late 90s.

The station today pales in comparison. They're a top 40 station like Y-100, My939 and Hits 97.3. The 4 stations are almost indistinguishable these days.

What do you remember about the station back then? Do you feel it's gotten worse over time? Why don't they go back to their roots and play more dance/freestyle?

David, any insight on the Original 93MIA sign on ratings. The looked okay 6+ but other demos could of been another story.

Times have changed. Tanner is now in Birmingham. Many of the wonderful talent have passed on.

I agree, a good back in the day station would probably do okay, but not great. The closest Miami has has was the original sign on was 93MIA, ratings look decent, but I think it was probably cutting into other CC properties?

I think you will see more Classic Hits/Flashback station in the next few years, as the under 30 crowd moves away from traditional radio.

You are seeing it now in many markets. The new Boom 92 in Texas is a good example. I think the numbers will be good.

Another time another era.

Besides, isn't it already too late for that to happen? CBS is acquiring Power 96 and it will no longer make it Power 96. Instead, it will convert from Rhythmic Top 40 to CHR/Top 40 as 96.5 AMP RADIO. Same goes for sister Wired 96 in Philly.
