Bring the Cardinal Broadcasts to KMOX

The question is are they financially successful where they are, or would the return to KMOX be financially beneficial to the team and the owners. Obviously, playing in the world series will help advertising in the coming season.

again the cards are part owners of the station they are on now. there will be no return to kmox.

You are likely right, but my question remains. At some point, they will look at the financial aspects of the deal!

CBS wanted more money from the Cardinals to keep the games on KMOX. Much the same happened on other CBS stations which have dropped baseball games. The new arrangement is more profitable for the team's owners.

If all KMOX had was the great signal, was it worth it for the Cards to be so degraded in terms of money and coverage to stay on KMOX?

KTRS is partly-owned by the Cards, broadcasts every game (spring, regular, and post-season) and has a ton of Cards programming. The team just needs to build the network. Feeding into my other thread question....why aren't more small town stations where KTRS just doesn't reach signing up for the games? Are the Cards asking for payment or something?

Most sports teams ask for money, and some of it is big! Winning a World Series generally ups the price. Meanwhile, radio station owners are rebelling and asking for money in addition to avails. CBS learned it from several of their stations that make a great deal of money charging sports teams for access.

CBS couldn't get away with it in St. Louis because KTRS was ready to deal with the Cards and did. Competition building a better product....I guess the jury may be out. They did win a World Series in the first year on KTRS and at the new Busch Stadium....so maybe that will help quiet down all the KMOX crying Cards fans seem to be doing and get some stations on the KTRS fringe to sign up with the Cards Network to serve fans better.

I understand why it didn't work at KMOX. Main point is that radio has gotten tired of being held hostage by big sports and has begun to fight back. With so many games on TV these days, the big radio rights don't make good business sense.

It is also why pro team owners are looking at buying radio stations. NBA Charlotte Bobcats have done it in the Charlotte area.
