Does anyone know what Nova 106.9 is using for audio processing? Historically they have used Optimods, but I'm not sure this time. It's by far the best sound in Brisbane in my opinion if not the best I've heard anywhere. It's obvious lots of effort has been made to feed the processor with a clean source and it shows. Very classy.
 
Given that most members on here are from the USA, it's unlikely anyone will know.
I'm from NZ, and I have no idea about our neighbours across the ditch. Aussie radio always seems to have plenty of money to throw around on equipment so whatever it is, it will be good.
 
I visited a different station on the same network about 8 years ago. The studios were awesome, I actually spoke to the engineer later by email and he told me they were using an Optimod 8400 which was state of the art at the time. I've been around these forums for a while now and from time to time have seen people pop up from down under. Might try emailing the station. I'm only curious but you never know.

I can confirm that in this case it is an Optimod 8400 running on Nova 106.9 Brisbane.
 
...and I agree - It is a very "classy" sound they are running, as with most of the other Nova stations around Australia. Sydney in particular sound spectacular.

No typical Australian sound I don't think. Generally sensibly loud, not too much clipping. Exciting, but easy to listen to.

Both Aus and NZ seem to favor Optimod in almost all major markets now.

I'm surprised Nova are still using an 8400 and not a more modern Orban box if what you say is correct
 
They all sound very nice. I notice the mics are pretty clean sounding for the most part. Here in the states our mics sound like crap on nearly all stations these days. Doesn't seem to matter how nice of a mic the processing will murder it on most stations.

I also notice a wide stereo image on most of them with out it being too much or causing weird phasing.
 
Very nice sounding stations. The mid/high end was very detailed without the crackling and other distortion I hear a lot. The lower pre-emphasis must be partially responsible for that.

That's because 99% of the folks here do not understand how to setup a mic processor. Everyone wants to go for the "dump-truck-full-of-balls" setting.
 
Triple M Brisbane are still on the 8400. In fact, all Brisbane stations are except for 97.3 who are still running a 8200.

There are some 11's running just down the road on the Gold Coast - SeaFM and Hot Tomato.
