Bristol Cans Bruce Clark

One of the worst radio people I've ever had the displeasure to work with has finally been shown the door. Hopefully forever. Looks like all the years of riding the payola gravy train has finally ended for Bruce Clark. No more contests with no eventual winners. No more selling station promotion stuff at his wife's shop. Now, who's Bill Hagy gonna get all his ill-gotten swag from? Upon his earlier firing in Evansville, Clark left a crap-filled man diaper in his desk. Class all the way.

Was he canned or did he leave...again? ???

There's an old radio "legend" in the Tri-Cities that Bruce has packed his stuff and left numerous times before...
only to come back to BBC.

If he left, I'm guessing the reason is he's pissed that Electric's ratings are back on the rise since they returned to mainstream CHR after his now infamous "white people don't listen to black music" speech to the BBC brass, as was widely reported on this message board.

Either way...whether he quit or was blown out...it's a good thing. What a jerk. I never known someone so offensive in this business -- and I've known a lot of schmucks over the years. It's the best thing that could have happened for BBC -- too bad Bolden didn't get drawn out in the draft with Clark when the door closed behind him.

You shouldn't judge a person before you meet face to face, but I'm glad to have never work for Bruce Clark. Everything I have ever heard about the man has been bad. The general discussion theme revolved around Clark's longevity at BBC. The consensus was that Clark had pictures of Pete Nininger in an unnatural position with a llama thus creating job security.

I grew up listening to WKYX in Paducah. It was an awesome AM rocker back in the 70's. That is, the aforementioned knucklehead came to town. Glad I got to kick his ass for it in the Evansville market.

I was lucky enough to have worked at KYX in the beginning of my career and yes Bruce was a jock @ the station for a short period, he did nights for a bit, he was there 2 or 3 other times...not going to say anyhting good or bad about Bruce. I was just curious because you mentioned you listened to the station growing up. I was poor but had a great time and learned so much for a first job and saw the station be one of Billboard Mags. top 5 stations of the year in 1976...cut up, sped up songs aside it was a truely a great and very special air-staff and station. John Larson was standing next to me the first time I ever went on-air @ Big Kicks at the age of 16, 7 years later I hired him to be my night guy at QUT at my first fullblown PD gig.

could someone discribe this guy ?we had a guy named bruce clark work in gallatin tn back in the mid 70's at WHIN..kinda large, about 6 feet..smelled kinda bad..had a great voice..way too good for a 1000 watt daytimer..but personality sounds just like the above discription..what age is he now? the one i'm thinking about would be 65 or a few years younger..last i heard many years ago he was selling aluminum siding in late 70's/early eighties..probably not the same guy i'm thinking of..but the above sure fits..

I think it's the same guy- real name Larry Bruce Claud. We use a HVAC contractor here in Nashville for our transmitter site units owned by a guy names Larry Claud. I asked him once if he was related to Bruce; he said no, but he used to get asked once in a while if he was Bruce Clark. I worked with Bruce in Charleston and Evansville.

thanks..is he in the nashville area ? about what age is he ? my old GM lives around the corner..he would probably know his real name..don't want to see him..but i stumbled across the thread and just wondered if he was one and the same..he would tape his show on a reel to reel at 1 7/8 using generic time checks..as long as he started the tape at 6pm..the spots and times would run correctly...then he would go from gallatin to nashville and party..worked til someone fast forwarded his tape...snipped it in half..and rewound it..just about the time he got to printers alley...the tape ran out...now i wonder who could have done that ?? :eek: hehehehe ;)

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy ::)
(Don't you know sarcasm when you hear it?)

I was doing the 6-midnight shift @ WHIN-FM in Gallatin, Tenn when this clown came in and did midnight-6 just to keep the station on the air 24 hours a day. He was still doing his shift on WHIN-AM. He was a real horses petute!

I did notice that Z-Rock has filled their position that Bruce Clark filled.. Anyone know by who? Also with the ratings of this station... anyone see a format change in the wings???
