I am a huge fan of the British comedies on channel 36, especially Are You Being Served every weeknight at 7pm. It is so funny. On Tuseday nights Channel 36 does a whole evening of British comedy. Does anyone else watch the British comedies regularly? <P ID="signature">______________

Not really lately but I'll tell you that when Monty Python first started
airing in this country, I watched it on Ch 36 (then Ch 2 in Boston
added it). I had seen clips of the show on a summer replacement series
on NBC, "Comedyworld"--sketches like "The Dull Life of a
Stockbroker" and "Bicycle Repairman". Liked them so much that when I
saw Ch 36 was to air it (and I was nr Boston so could barely pick it up)
I tuned in.

Python of course was a classic, as was Fawlty Towers. Remember The Goodies?
I remember a sitcom called No, Honestly, too...

And someone gave me a tape of a children's show from the UK (speaking of
British comedy) called Do Not Adjust Your Set that featured 4 of the
future Pythons and songs by the Bonzo Dog Band

Although I personally am not a fan of the BritComs, they seem to be very popular on Maine Public Broadcasting Network TV, formerly known as "Maine PBS". They have a couple hours of the British comedies every Friday evening from 9-11PM..You may be able to pick up their Channel 26 from Biddeford down in RI when the conditions are good..especially with spring and summer tropo-skip coming up soon.

Yes I also enjoy the Britcoms - though not on "channel 36". Mine are on GBH-2 or NH Public TV (11). Are You Being Served is an absolute classic! Also really enjoyable are Keeping Up Appearances and Fawlty Towers. Too bad that Basil Fawlty had such a short run (only 12 episodes)!

Good Neighbors (originally shown on BBC as "The Good Life") was another delightfully funny series that our local PBS affiliate showed in its entirety - one episode per week.

It's surprising how many people actually watch these shows, including folks that you would least expect to tune in. It just shows that quality programs attract a wide swath of society.

NHPTV was showing the Britcoms every Tuesday evening and rerunning them on Saturdays. However, they always take them off during the month long Beg-a-thons - which I hate!

You know, if they actually featured some of these shows (which are popular) during Pledge Month, they could get some cash from me. As it stands now, showing some weird "doctor" lecturing or reruns of old Grateful Dead concerts in place of my favorite shows is simply ailenating and result in a pledge of ZERO!

At one point channel 36 would have pledge nights with the Bricoms, and all the money raised that night would go towards more British comedy programming. Keeping Up Apperances is my favorite, and I also like Waiting for God. The problem with the Britcoms are twofold - there aren't a lot of episodes and they are licened as individual episodes and not by seasons or complete series. That's why some stations will scale back from time to time, just due to sheer expense.
