British Newspaper Article on Tampa Brokered Radio Show

The St. Pete Times has a more detailed and informative article on this scam. Will find the link and post it.......... but the long and short of it is:

In 2007, Robert Craig started listening to a radio talk show called It's God's Money on WTBN-AM 570. He says he contacted the show's host, developer and financial adviser Gary Gauthier, seeking advice on a safe investment for his $60,000 — at the time in an ING annuity.
Gauthier, the lawsuit says, told listeners they could invest "God's money" through him.

"Are you there, God? It's me, Gary..." ::)

I used to produce this sleazebag's show when I worked at Salem. All of this is true, so hopefully no one gets their knickers in a knot....

Gary looks like a Simpsons character, he had a mail order Chinese wife and I always thought he looked like he would have been a great TV evangelist (you should see his hair!). I remember at one point last year we had a worried listener looking for Gary show up at the back door... needless to say he was not happy... but Gary had already moved on to 820 or somewhere... then he just disappeared. I always thought his show was hilarious because Mike Serio would "interview" him and play straight man on the show, asking scripted questions that always seemed to start out with... "Gee Gary that sure sounds interesting..." or "Wow Gary, this is exciting, tell us more!"

Here's a picture of the dude...

This sounds like Deja Vu all over again! Was this the same scam artist (I know there's more than one) or was it a different scam artist/crook that basically did the same thing on a religious Orlando station about 6 or 7 years ago?

These stations certainly don't seem to check or care about the backgrounds of these people or how many listeners they steal from; just as long as the money brings in revenue.

We always had questionable financial shows on WRFA in the early 90's. We had one on the old 680 WLFF and the guy ran off with money from little old ladies. Don't forget the Carpenter's Homes Church scandal. Christian stations are so desperate for revenue, they will put anyone on the air. I use the word "Christian" in quotes because the worst people I have ever met were associated with religious broadcasting.
