Broadband radio

I am a new to this site and I love reading all the posts - All of you are a wealth of information. I have a question. The vice president will be in my city Wednesday to speak about having broadband nationwide, especially for those who live in the rural areas. My question is will that mean that internet radios or the ability to have a wireless connection anywhere be possible? I think I read somewhere that in the next few years wifi radios will be available in new automobiles - that would be great!

That's a slow process with many cities...and since budget cuts are on going....your local coffee shop or Starbucks (that's me) or retail facilities is the only place you will have mostly free access to internet radio or broadband. But you need your lap or wireless device and you'll have to sit in a chair to listen.
The other thing is BPL. Broadband over powerlines...where you can plug your computer into a wall socket type and receive internet. But Amateur radio, and AM broadcasters complained that it would bring interference buzzing transformer like noises, so that has been delayed in most areas. And it's could've developed into broadband in cars as well with access points.
WIMAX I know in my town was suppose to be here and cover a 5 mile radius....bu that was 2007. it's 2009.
The major city I live outside of was to have it in 2006. it was scrapped due to budgets and impasses.
