Broadcast network coverage of Iran bombing

It may have been a repeat of said season premiere, but it was not an original on a Saturday night.

As I said in reply to Larry back in post #26, I will take your word for it as I haven't been able to stomach the reboots and therefore only heard "welcome to season 8" and presumed it was new.

Can I stop answering about that now, please?

Sounds like the same logic as ABC. Weekday anchor due to the breaking news.
And Saturday night, NBC (and I presume CBS) redid the evening news for the West Coast, at least the first 15 minutes, as the news broke between feeds.

NBC took the entire 10 p.m. ET hour for Trump's speech and analysis / early reports from Tel Aviv.

In Chicago "Newsradio 105.9" WBBM carried only Trump's address. No other coverage, just the ordinary news programming you would normally hear.

Then why not just shut down broadcast TV? You always want to make the best of what you have.
Broadcast TV is on the road to becoming irrelevant. Once live sports move completely to streaming, broadcast TV can shut the lights, and no one will notice. Tomorrow, no. Next year, no. 10 years, probably.

And yet the broadcasters insist on getting that new ATSC standard implementation date finalized. I am convinced that the only reason they want this is because they can encrypt their signals (as if the FCC would somehow allow the major networks to go subscription-only).

The reality is that there is no easy fix for DVRs and TVs on the existing ATSC 1.0 standard to receive 3.0 broadcasts, such as was the case when we shifted from analog to digital. Without that, good luck getting the old standard abandoned; just as the "drop dead" date for analog kept being moved up, Congress will hear too many complaints from people with existing equipment about the expense of replacement and keep moving that date out.

Meanwhile all I hear are people complaining about the cost of streaming, and how it's inconvenient. People seem to like broadcast TV because it's cheap and easy.

Once the boomers are gone so will broadcast TV.

This Boomer will keep OTA reception as long as it exists. I do not appreciate the ageist tone of that remark.

Also because some of us Boomers don't care for the current offerings on streaming. And when that is the case, any subscription amount is too much.

How do they watch. On cable.

Boy, you sure are one to presume things, aren'tcha?

I also hear they hate cable. Cut the cord.

My cable company provides me with broadband service only. Not television service.

The fact is the younger you get the less likely you are to watch any live TV other than sports. Most younger generations get their entertainment from YouTube and TikTok. They don’t even watch any TV in the traditional sense.

The Demo will age out and the industry will adjust.

This thread is about broadcast network coverage of the Iran bombing. I'd bet most of the audience was watching baseball on Fox. I was.

I don't watch sports. I do watch live TV news. Stop trying to speak for everyone when you clearly don't know the facts.

Who gets news from network TV anymore. They all go to cable.

Once again, you make presumptions about cable being ubiquitous. Please stop.

Now, if you can find actual numbers to back up your statements ...

Haven't this been talked to death that network evening news is dying off while people look for alternatives. Fox News is always near the top of the news ratings.

You are the one who keeps making statements that need rebutting. Once you stop, so will the rebuttals.
