Broadcast network coverage of Iran bombing

5 million people watched a parade on Fox News.

Of course they did. Fox News' primary demographic is Trump supporters. If that was meant to be proof of something, well ... it isn't.

And again, you are the one keeping this thread alive with your posts. I am simply refusing to let wild claims of "proof" go unchallenged.

I can't find the ratings for last night yet, I bet more people watch the news on Fox News than ABC.

Two salient points:

I was touring ABC's new headquarters in lower Manhattan on Saturday morning, and as soon as GMA was over, the control room and studio had "special report" graphics up and ready, presumably in anticipation of what might be coming. (Or, alternatively, it's possible this is a default preparedness mode for them.)

And for the young people I know, it's not a choice between OTA and cable. Neither is of any relevance to most of them, because they have grown up in an entirely on-demand world and they simply don't watch any linear TV.

Chicken or egg? Something worth watching might change that.

What I found very sad is that I couldn't find any coverage (other than news headlines) on broadcast radio. With no live, linear programs at that hour of the weekend, there are no talk show hosts to jump in with real-time content, comments and phone calls.

Is it surprising that people are moving elsewhere?
I know Red Eye Radio wwas live last night.. UUsually is not live on Saturday nights as theyy uusually re-air a episode from the previous week.

Depends on which numbers you look at. ABC World News Tonight averages 7.248 million viewers. Fox News primetime ratings average 2.46 million.
But more importantly, in the 25-54 demo:
World News Tonight: 1.14 million
Fox News prime: 0.26 million

For both, 85-90% of their viewers are beyond the Sacred Sales Demo™. The same pattern holds for the other broadcast nets and cablers.

Journalistically, it creates a problem because, for now, this is a controlled story, where the only real source of information is the government. They control the narrative and can use it for political purposes. There are experts that can be called for some color and variation on the information. Certainly people have opinions. But the only way to balance the reporting for now is to use foreign reporters who may have feet on the ground in Iran.

It's very different from the Iraq war, because there was a lot of time to prepare and get reporters into Iraq. They were able to provide video of the battles and get the view from the street. Right now, that's not available.

I would bet that ABC is trying to get Ian Pannell in there, for precisely those reasons, A.

@Don CT, can I send you my e-mail address so you can pay off that bet via PayPal?
