Broadcast sied of HD radio

Can someone please explain how HD Radio works on the broadcast side of things? Does KLUV and the rest have a separate studio and control board to broadcast, or is everything hooked up to a computer with a voice tracking software package installed?
 
No one I've heard of, except the short lived attempt at WJMK in Chicago to do oldies with live jocks, uses a studio for their HD2's and 3's. Usually it's a computer in the rack room down the a hall networked to all the other computers in the building. Nothing fancy.
