Hey Techies,
A quick question for you all. Which would you go for? I want to start a internet station and my choice is between Breakaway Broadcast Processor or broadcast warehouse DSPXmini-HD Audio Processor. Has anyone worked with both and which would you pick and why? Would the broadcast warehouse DSPXmini-HD Audio Processor be better than Breakaway Broadcast Processor...? Thanks in adavance everyone!

Re: broadcast warehouse DSPXmini-HD Audio Processor Vrs Breakaway Broadcast Proc

Ask Bob on the job. I am retrofitting a computer for Broadcast to use Breakaway. I have Lynx One and An Emu card.

300 bucks for the broadcast version of breakaway, add ups. Internet is a no brainier. Program runs on the same computer with your automation.

well the story is I have a very old computer that runs the automation programe I have. It could not run Breakaway. The cost of buying a computer and then getting Breakaway and sound card would add up to the same money I could buy a 2nd hand DSPXmini-HD Audio Processor. So the question stands. What one would you chose,or which one gives better results? DSPXmini-HD Audio Processor or Breakaway Broadcast Processor? Please help!

Re: broadcast warehouse DSPXmini-HD Audio Processor Vrs Breakaway Broadcast Proc

I wouldn't run Breakaway on the same computer as the automation because while one computer can easily handle both apps I wouldn't want my "eggs in one basket".

That being said, if the budget is tight you can get Breakaway, an ASIO-compatible card and a computer for around a grand. That's about half the cost of the mini.

I would never run Breakaway on the same computer as the automation system, but if you have a Quad Core Xeon loaded with RAM, perhaps you can get away with it...but it seems risky. I would, however, run Breakaway on the same computer as your encoder. I'd still run it at least a Pentium D with a gig of ram, though.

I'd run Breakaway over DSP-X...easy to get it to sound good.

Unfortunately I can't edit my older post, but if I could I wanted to add that you could easily use Breakaway Live or even the inexpensive Audio Enhancer (with a trick or two) instead of the BBP.

If you take this route the processing power requirements are GREATLY reduced and IMO on a web stream you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between Live & BBP.

DSPXmini-WEB is half the cost of the HD at only $750 dollars. A bulletproof hardware solution!

BTW, i've changed the title of the thread to reflect the manufacturers proper name. I hope you don't mind.

Thanks for the feed back buys! Money is not much of a issue. My options are as follows
http://www.broadcastwarehouse.com/bw-broadcast/dspxmini-web-audio-processor/1313/product

http://www.broadcastwarehouse.com/bw-broadcast/dspxmini-hd-audio-processor/44/product
I can buy the above from a station going off air for the same money as the dspx mini web audio

or

Breakaway Broadcast Processor which I would use on a seperate computer, quad core with 8gb of ram just for break away use only

I would be interested to hear if anyone has compared Breakaway Broadcast Processor with the above.

Thanks again !

That's a no-brainer. Get the pre-owned HD unit.

I use Breakaway Consumer with an RCA patch cord connected between the coax digital output and input of my sound card (M Audio Delta Audiophile 192). My encoder is connected to the digital input of my sound card. Sounds great-look at my earlier post for addresses to listen.

My system wouldn't run BBP and the automation about a year ago when I first tried. I bought a used IBM thinkpad that would run both without hiccups, and it has been running both Zara automation and BBP which feeds the Pt 15 AM. I was a bit nervous about running both on one computer, but it has worked fine for me for just about 1 year. That said, I don't know if it would have enough power/speed to also stream audio to a server.
That's why I'm considering the standalone Barix instreamer/exstreamer solution.
I'd much rather upstream audio off the detector of an actual radio, than the audio at the computer stage.
I do more processing after the computer, add reverb, etc....
