If you Google "Broadcasting Yearbooks" you will notice that someone has actually scanned most of them and posted them on his site. This is great"

The 1949 book has an ad for Westinghouse transmitters and shows the new WWSW 970 xmtr. site with Hank Kaiser standing in front with another tech at the control desk.

Just checked it out. The fellow's name is David Gleason, and he can be reached through his website at www.davidgleason.com.

I'm setting him up with three yearbooks of my own that he doesn't already have. Very cool that someone has taken the time to do this for future generations!
 
Back in the fifties I subscribed to Broadcasting Magazine. By doing so, I was able to purchase the Yearbook for $5.00. I was a newscaster at KQV at the time and made $5.00 per hour. But, it was worth it.

I bought the 1989 Yearbook in 1990 for half-price at $55, plus shipping. I sure didn't make $55 an hour! Some disparity there if you ask me! :D
 
In addition to the $5.00 per hour, we also received $5.00 extra for each commercial newscast.....and I had 2 per hour. Not bad for back in the olden days.

The Yearbook I purchased had an ad for the new Continental 1 million watt AM transmitter. Got to see one in operation at the Voice of America.
