Brockton pirate shut down--interfered with fire calls

http://www.enterprisenews.com/news/...-station-in-Brockton-flagged-for-interference

>>music started playing over the speakers in the station used for dispatching fire engines and garbling emergency communications...They discovered a satellite dish and an FM antenna on a radio mast directly across the street from Fire Station 1...The antenna extended nearly 60 feet in the air and an unlicensed station was broadcasting on 88.9 MHz, right next to WERS in Boston

(Actually that would be on the same freq as ERS, not next to.) The article went on to say they were doing Haitian programming, and in Haiti licenses aren't required (?!?)...frequencies are scarce...and as I have pointed out they sell advertising but don't pay taxes!
Driving through Boston last night on the way back from the Marshfield fair I went through some spots on the dial and showed the two friends riding with me the many unlicensed stations out
there. Big City, Choice, Touch, and many more.

The pirate causing problems to WERS is/was on 88.7. The one near the fire station was actually 100.9, and it was causing problems for WZLX of course. Both seemed to go off the air for a couple days, but then 88.7 returned over the weekend.

Appreciate the info! There are some micro transmitters
available online (amazon etc) for as low as under $100
but people getting them are advised that the power
they can reach can be well above FCC limits. 60 foot tower...
