Broken Bells - The High Road

This song, from the self titled album by Broken Bells, aka James Mercer of The Shins and DJ Danger Mouse also of Gnarls Barkley, is quite amazing. It is a couple months old now, but still getting fairly moderate airplay on the alternative radio stations (#19 on Alt charts). What are your thoughts on a hip hop producer such as Danger Mouse, having success on the alternative charts with two different bands? Also, has your local station added this amazing song yet?

I think it's great that DJ Danger Mouse has been successful on the alternative charts. To me, alternative music should be at least a little more adventurous and open to playing music that isn't the same old same old. Not only that, but I've heard at least one alternative station that has not infrequently played Jay-Z's "99 Problems". If there's room for Jay-Z, there's room for DJ Danger Mouse.

Our AAA station, WXRT, has played "The High Road" for at least a couple of months. Q101, our alternative station, hasn't touched it and almost certainly never will.

This song was played in the background of NBC-TV's "Chuck" last night. That show has featured a lot of hip new tracks by indie-type unknowns.
