Brokered Airtime Rates and other questions...

Appreciate this question is like shooting an arrow into a barrel of apples in water but...

I'm juggling around some ideas at the moment, and one is to start the process of a syndicated music show by buying airtime on a AM or so, namely a Sat or Sun daytime, AM and wondering, ballpark, what kind of rates (ranges) I may expect for an hour or two hours, say in one of the top 30 markets?

Secondly, working on the principle that all things are negotiable, what wiggle room I could expect when discussing rates/terms etc?

Finally, Music clearance, are most/all stations covered by Ascap/BMI etc or do I need to clear?

Thanks in Advance.

Depending on what rank station you're on in a top 30 market, you're looking at probably $300-$2,000 per hour. That also varies between market 30 and market 1.

Secondly, working on the principle that all things are negotiable, what wiggle room I could expect when discussing rates/terms etc?

Your negotiating power will most likely only exist if you offer the station inventory in your show. They probably won't want much, but if you offer them that AND get them to believe that your show is sell-able, you might have SOME room.

Finally, Music clearance, are most/all stations covered by Ascap/BMI etc or do I need to clear?

Most stations are licensed.

Thanks Rico, much appreciated. The AM stations I have my eye on, I don't believe rank that well right now, but that gives me some idea for the first draft biz plan. I'll get off my butt and make some calls next week.

Many thanks amfmsw (like the handle btw, SW, the forgotten bands, but a lifeline to many). I'll try and get in touch with him over the next day or so. Much appreciated.
