Brokered radio

Are there any Brokers or Brokerages that specifically deal in "brokered" radio or LMA's? How would person A with a station find person B with programming willing to pay for airtime on person A's station? And I'm not talking about hour by hour programming, I'm thinking of those networks or programs who seem to be on 24/7 all over the country.

Depends on the number of people in the primary coverage area. If it is large (100,000 +), you could try one the the religious broadcasters. Many are buying stations. They might LMA it and send you a check every month. Get a good Lawyer that deals with the FCC regularly to draw up the contract.

Dial Global or Cumulus Satellite (Old ABC) (there are some sports and financial offerings from other providers too) will program your station for "free", just clear their commercials. Of course you still have to sell locally to cover your expenses. I doubt they will pay you anything unless your station is in the top 10 markets.

If you do not want to "get your hands dirty" LMA it to another local operator. Johnny Prikle LMA'ed 100.3 Oak Ridge / Knoxsville TN. for something like 70 or 80 thousand dollars a month, for years until the Citadel Bankruptcy. Of course this station has one of the best signals east of the Mississippi and he was starting to eat into WIVK's revenue when the LMA happened in the 1990's.

World Radio Network does some brokering for International clients. Maybe they can help.

This is the same WRN that re-broadcasts many of the shortwave, and ex-shortwave, International Broadcast nets. They seem to "do it all" nowadays. I think they started in a college dorm closet, back in the 80's IIRC.

For Nostalgia's benefit, this type of programming service is usually called "barter" where the station receives programming for "free" as long as they carry the network commercials, and they have, typically, about 10 minutes of local spot availabilities to sell on their own. They trade some ad time for the programming, but can also do break-aways from the service for local news and sports and public affairs and such.

Brokering is usually where a party rents bulk time... hours or even the whole station... and programs and sells all the time themselves. The licensee still oversees the compliance issues, but is essentially renting out the whole thing or blocks of time. A fulltime rental of a station is often called an LMA.
