Brokered Sports Host Takes On Mike & The Mad Dog

Paterson, NJ native Greg Marotta "has purchased 10 hours of time per week on WVNJ, 1160-AM, 3-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. WVNJ has a strong reach - New York City, North Jersey, Long Island, Westchester, Rockland and through WVNJ.com...

"Calling a pitcher a gutless dog for losing a big game may pass for good, strong radio, but that's not taking a firm position, that's blowhard radio," he said. "What passes for big-time sports-talk radio is mostly terrible. I have to give this a shot."

WVNJ's north Jersey signal isn't bad, but if they're expecting to make an impression in NYC proper, they're going to have a tough time. They barely can get 2.5 mv coverage over the Bronx, and parts of lower Manhattan, most of Brooklyn and Queens, and all of the Bronx won't even get a 0.5 mv signal strength.

All the NYC-licensed stations, conversely, can get a 15 to 25 mv field strength or more into all five bnoroughs, and at least 2.5 mv over substantially all of Nassau and Westchester Counties as well.
