Bruce Collins out as WTVN / WYTS PD

What goes around comes around.

I would be more sympathetic in situations like this, but the casualty list is rather notable...George Lehner, Curt Boster, Steve "Boom Boom" Cannon," Stuart Osborne...

And Scott Kahler is getting posthumous vindication right now.

Let's just say other former listeners of AM 1230 would not be as kind with their reaction to this news.
 
I wonder if the little <censored> issue that got him canned in Atlanta happened up here, too?
 
Hate to hear this.. Bruce is a good PD and a great guy.
 
How about letting us know in some sort of a more direct way what "incident" you are talking about that Collins was involved with (allegedly) while in Atlanta?
 
I don't think we need to drag out the allegations made by the staff of Atlanta after his departure.
If you google deeply you can find out if you really need to know.
 
Alright, I've "googled" until the cows came home and still haven't found a darn thing. Either you are lying, or just playing around with "allegations" about someone you have no right to talk about. If "it" is there then leave the link so we may conclude you were right. Otherwise you are a troll with an agenda...and an irresponsible troll at that.
 
I remember reading it at the when first came here. It may have been in a Atlanta forum and some forums delete old dead threads. It was also discussed on the old Columbus media page and was known to some CC employees who made it public. Call WGST if you really have to know.
 
Oh great then...how about beating around the bush at the very least so that some of us in the dark have even a little clue as to what this may have been all about? End the guessing game because it is almost incumbent upon you to do so...seeing how you have raised the issue that has yet to become defined.
 
I've been in this business for 19 years and I've worked for some real nut muncher PD's. I've also worked for a few real classy, top notch pros that have earned my respect both personally, and professionally. Bruce Collins is one of those few pros that has my respect. After he digests this, he will bounce back!
 
I believe it is beyond classless for anyone to infer to something as an indiscretion that resulted in a release from employment, with a man's professional life and reputation hanging in the balance, and then not to provide a hint of any detail as to what the poster here was referring to. Classless with a capital C.
 
No shocker--- If someone reads the Clear Channel policy on nepotism perhaps there would have been a different outcome. God Speed Mr Collins-- CC Columbus will get a reality check when Bain actually sees what is going in on there in Harper Valley
 
Let me get this straight. This release of Bruce Collins in Atlanta previously had to do with 'nepotism'? If this is the case can someone please tell me why it was so hard to say this in plain terms instead of hinting that it was because of something perhaps more seedy?
 
The reason it is so hard is that people would like to dredge somebody through the mud and make things seem as if they are really bad.

Obviously they don't have the balls, courage or whatever you want to call it to be up front, truthful, honest...so they lob "alleged accusations" from afar.
 
What are some of your least favorite Bruce Collins changes? What about postive changes he made?

Mine would be dumping Steve Boom Boom Cannon and Sterling, "The Show with No Name". from the WTVN
lineup.
Also, dropping live and local news from WTVN from 7PM to 5AM is another move I'm not happy about.

As for as WYTS goes, a lot of people were not happy when he dropped Progressive talk from WTPG 1230AM.
BTY, Mr Collins cited, "Problems with that station" when he announced on the air that he was going to drop
Progressive Talk from 1230AM.

The WBNS-TV weather partnership seems to be a very positive move for WTVN.
 
Konrad is the one who dumped Sterling.

I would rate dumping Steve and making the station automated from 7P-5A two of the biggest negatives. Of course, who knows if this was Bruce's decision or was he just the hatchet man.

I would say making the mid-day slot a live show is a positive, even though it doesn't show in the ratings. The 10tv deal exceeds the coverage Metro was providing.

Oh and getting rid of George Lehner was a good move as well. Freshening up the Buckeye Fan Preview Show was long overdue.
 
Guys, let's be real. Bruce didn't make those changes on his own. CC had a plan and he's the one that executed it. Been there. Done that.
 
From what I know, Bruce Collins was completely boxed in and hamstrung by an impossible situation when he was in Atlanta. Currently WGST in Dixie is in ruins with the way in over his head Randall Bloomquist at the helm. Collins work at WTVN speaks for itself as the station was tops in almost all categories across the board. The move to can Collins, while unjust, will probably work out in his favor. Collins needs a bigger stage to develop a bigger radio station for bigger money in his paycheck.Who is going to be surprised to learn that Collins lands in a top 25 market using his WTVN work as a springboard toward making that jump? Nepotism, anyone?
 
Kirk, there is no way you are going to convince me or other former WTPG advertisers that Bruce Collins was nothing more than a "hatchet man."

And until you make known how you know this inside stuff, you have just as much credibility as the guy who made the nepotism claim.

And if as elephant says it was a plan that Collins simply executed, you bet I will be JohnBoy Crenshaw's worst nightmare sooner than he thinks. Much sooner.
 
I can see JohnBoy right now, sitting on his stool at Morton's worrying about this... Or maybe he's just contemplating his next drink.
