My how the mighty have fallen...
Bruce Drennan has been a fixture in the Cleveland sports media for 35 years. The guy worked for various stations, had a stint doing play-by-play for the Tribe and most recently worked morning drive for WKNR and then mid-mornings for 850. He was the centerpiece of that station until...
The gambling fiasco last October. Drennan was put on leave by the station after the feds searched his home as a part of a sting operation to bust an illegal bookmaking and gambling operation in Ohio. While no charges have been filed, the whole investigation has been a black cloud over the poor guy's head and he now can boast that he holds the ever-so desirable position as program director of a fledgling internet sports station.
NOW, word comes out that one of Drennan's sponsor-buddies, Mark Klang of AMAZING Tickets, has been put on house arrest and been forced to repay $100,000 to the Browns and $90,000 to the government for his role in a scam in which Amazing Tickets were illegally-funneled Browns tickets from a Browns executive. Klang's accomplice over at Amazing Tickets, Anthony Sgambati, gets sentenced tomorrow.
Boy Bruce Drennan had everything going for him. Now he's being investgated by the feds, his alledged accomplice in the gambling ring has been indicted and his buddies from Amazing Tickets are in trouble for their ticket scam. I know people who worked with Drennan before and most of them would say what goes around comes around, as he was never the easiest or nicest guy to deal with. (The word "egomaniac" has been used in the past) Still, its sad to see how the mighty can fall so quickly.
