Bruce Hooley suspended?

I guess he has not been on the air in the last few days, some are speculating-he did a bit where he read an e-mail from the "consultant" that was brought in. I get the feeling Holligans will be no more one way or another in 6 months anyway.

I had a feeling it might be a gimmick-it was so over the top, I wasn't sure if Hooley just lost it, or what. There are times where KNR gets good, and then they pull corny stuff like this.

Probably vacation time for him. The consultant is not a real person but a gimmick made up by the staff.

The "consultant" comments this week made it sound as though Hammer had found his new career as a consultant.

If it's possbile for Goldhammer to get worse, he has-he's just terrible radio.

Stop and think for a second...

Could you honestly see Hammer working for Clear Channel, CBS, Salem, Radio One, Rubber City Radio, or Ideastream (the big radio players in town)?

The answer is No.

He's tethered to Good Karma. Somehow, someway he got in real tight with Craig Karmazin (be it through their daddies, or running in the same social circles, or whatever).

He's not the kind of guy that can or will work in a place without knowing upfront he's got the run of the place, and that he's bulletproof.

vjm, he never had to pay his dues in this business. For whatever reason he was handed an on air gig somewhere and as long as Craig owns a station he will always be on the air somewhere. It is too bad because there are many people I would rather listen to talk sports than him.

Hammer and Karmazin really are 2 peas in a pod...

They're both Jewish, politically very liberal, born into money, and have high profile fathers. They even sound alike vocally.

As the old saying goes, they're brothers from another mother.

Hammer can never work anywhere that he's not insulated. No other broadcast company would put up with his act. He'd be out in a heartbeat.

For all the crap that Chris Fedor takes (and deservedly so), at least he went to and graduated from OCB, and worked his way up from an intern. He made the mistake of trying to play Hammer's game without Hammer's connections.

Fedor went to Baldwin Wallace, remember hearing him doing BW football/basketball games. Hammer, from what he has said, did broadcasting at NYU I believe. Doesn't seem like either of them rolled out of bed and suddenly into broadcasting careers.

And just playing devil's advocate here, but people act as if Hammer was handed the main host job in morning or afternoon drive. He's the co-host on the mid-day show. Not sure what the big deal is. Seems like any thread started on here about KNR eventually turns into people ripping on Hammer.

IMO both KNR and The Fan have their strong and weak points, yet you rarely see anyone pile on The Fan. Curious......

These "Goldhammer" sucks threads are always fun to read. It exposes the
1) Lack of real on the job experience by authors of these posts.
2) The inability to to understand character development in an ensemble cast.
3) Failure to comprehend Arbitron ratings.
4) Failure to understand it does not take a college degree or plunking down $15k for the Ohio Center for Broadcasting to make it.

John I am glad you have everyone's resume and know what everyone has accomplished in their life. There is zero jealousy on my part when it comes to Goldhammer. I think he is annoying and turns off a lot of listeners.

Fedor is a BW grad, who then went to OCB to hone his skills. Hammer did go to NYU.

RBS is THE signature show on WKNR. The reasons why they aren't in AMD/PMD are:

1. They are obligated to run Mike and Mike in AMD due to their ESPN affiliation

2. They lose power in the evenings post sunset (50KW to 4700 watts with a funky pattern), thus for 6 months out of the year a lot of people wouldn't get to hear the full show. So PMD on WKNR isn't really prime real estate

RBS' place on the schedule gives the show it's strongest reach at optimum power.

Everybody on KNR from Munch to Reghi to Brinda to Roda has bounced all over the schedule in the Good Karma era...except for Hammer, who has been tethered to Rizzo (their most popular host) with a chain and padlock since the beginning.

Aaron Goldhammer is the proverbial teacher's pet...people like Rizzo, and listen for Rizzo, and thus he makes sure he rides that gravy train. Hammer's going along for the ride, he knows it, and basks in the fact that nobody can do anything about it.

Eh, John's obviously unfulfilled in his personal life and seeks validation on the internet. (Oh wait, am I being ... presumptuous?) ::)

You don't like him, therefore nobody else possibly can!

Must be turning off lots of listeners: In the latest PPM data WKNR is ahead of ALL spoken word competitors while Goldhammer is on, in real demos.

It's not even close between the two sports talk stations.

There...fixed it for you.

Honestly answer this question...If Hammer had his own show, would he get decent ratings?

The answer is no. People like Rizzo, not so much Hammer.

RBS would do as well if not better if Aaron went bye-bye. If Rizzo left, well...then Colin Cowherd would get a nice clearance on 850.

John, people could not stand Fedor, and he is gone-and not really missed-people have stated how bad he is for a while-KNR finally realized it-tell me how Hammer is any better radio wise.

I listen to WKNR every day and the reason I got hooked on the station is Rizz and Hammer. People love to rag on Hammer all the time but seriously when Aaron isn't there I feel the same way most do when Rizzo isn't there. There great together and I think people who rip on him are just jelous of his success. If you don't like the show change the station. I really just flat out love listening to WKNR all day at work and when I have the chance at home with the exception of while Jim Rome, Mike and Mike and the one hour Cleveland Browns infomercial are on. Everyone is entitled to their oppinion and I for one love The Really Big Show. Now if only they would put on Kenny Rhoda in the Morning and TJ Zuppe with another solid partner in Rome's spot.

MaxJulian, I'm not jealous of his success-he can have it, can he do it in another city? Rizzo is just as bad-it's the reason I listen to 92.3 in the morning instead now-ask Fedor if all is perfect in KNR land.
