Bruce Hooley

I live out of market but try to keep up as much as I can with Columbus radio.

My question is about Bruce Hooley, everyone I talk to pretty much despises him on BNS. Apparently he hates Columbus or OSU or something...?

Can you all please shed some light on this?

Bruce Hooley was the OSU beat writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and then a lot of Buckeye fans hated him. I read him regularly, tho I'm in Zanesville, and I repected his judgements. He definately isn't one to follow a party line. If he were that bad for OSU then BNS wouldn't have hired him. Pklus, if he ruffles some feathers then he is doing his job.

People talk bad about Bruce because he is not an OSU Homer. He is a straight talker who get's under everyone's skin. He is good at his job and brings interesting points to the conversation. Those who don't like him need to realize that not everything is perfect with The OSU Athletic program.

Many who don't like him don't like him for other reasons, as in the guy is a pompous jerk who talks down to everyone and just comes off as embittered. Before you ask if I have a personal axe to grind with him, no. I simply have met him before and been around him in the press box at Ohio State (before I moved out of the area last year) and it seemed to me that if he perceived you as being below him, then screw off.
Again, not trying to create a personal attack, just recounting my experiences.
A straight talker who used to get under people's skin was Tim Benz. He was an objective voice that station, and really the city, needed.

Hooley is a ****** nozzle and is lucky to have a job. He's on a station with Herbie, Spielman, and Krenzel so of course he needs to be contrary. It's so transparent it's sick.
He'd be better off writing for an out of town news paper. Oh wait.

So you guys are sports fans. I am curious about something. I am a Bengals fan. I have reached the conclusion that this team will never EVER win a Superbowl. I really believe that. In fact, they may never win another game. I just wondered if at some point, a fan is allowed to finally give up and change teams? I am being serious. I just cannot support this team anymore. It kills me because I love them. But Mike Brown is maybe the worst owner in the history of the NFL. Or maybe even all of sports. I am sure Cubs fans have no sympathy and I can understand that. Maybe they should consider the same idea, leave the Cubs. Is this even allowed? I know it sounds wrong, but I am just so fed up and disgusted. All those years of no winning seasons just to go lose a playoff game and then return to being a losing team. Oh well.

Oh and as for Hooley, the guy is just boring to me. No personality whatsoever. I listen to Shark on Sports in the afternoon, except when Jeff Logan is on, because he is boring, too.

I've never enjoyed Bruce because he uses the phrase "you tell me" all the time. Also, he doesn't so much have opinions as he has stabs in the dark at what might be considered controversial material, often times failing miserably.

Also his delivery is kind of whiny. And not in a Mark Levin kind of way either.

Give me Mo Edgar from 1530 in Cincinnati any day.
