I have it from reliable sources inside of CC that KFYI early morning man Bruce Jacobs was fired today (Tuesday).

It is true, they have already updated their website, and it appears Mike Broomhead is going to be the new morning drive guy.

Perhaps Bruce will decide to stick with sports talk and stay away from political/current events?

I disagreed with the way Bruce treated Julie Erfle on-air and had quite the email discussion with him about it. Our conversation was civil and we agreed to disagree, with Bruce commenting that he could understand my position, but still we disagreed.

I wish Bruce well as he seeks his next job in radio.

I liked Bruce as a sports talker —he actually possessed a semblance of being informed about what he discussed and/or ranted over… …unlike the political realm, where he was completely uninformed, ill prepared (outside of a few sound bites) and just spewed ignorant hateful name calling… …one local blogger compared him to Archie Bunker, but I think that would be giving him entirely too much credit…

It is sometimes hard to tell from hearing him on-air, but Bruce is truly one of the nicest guys I ever had the pleasure of working with. Usually laughing that big laugh and always with time for others. The guy is too talented to not land something good - and soon.

Mike is also a super guy. I know Bruce will be wishing him well as will everybody in the CC Compound.

Jimmy

Bruce was on this Saturday and Sunday doing sports, I thought something might be up...

Broomhead is even dumber than Bruce, I mean, really ignorant dumb mullethead hick kind of stuff. I really hope KFYI goes and gets someone intelligent and listenable, Broomhead is just a broken record with about 3 subjects he can talk about.

I hope Bruce goes back to sports full time, he is a great sports jock, but he didn't have even a rudimentary knowledge of current affairs, and you can only cover so long by being loud and outrageous.

I respectfully disagree. Your statement above may instead show something about your intelligence. But everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Hate to say I told you so, but I told you so. Pratt and Clear Channel have been talking for weeks. When he turned down KNIX, the target shifted to KFYI. Personally, I think Pratt would have been a better fit on KTAR, but then again, I never thought he would have success in country. I was wrong. He has never failed so let's give him the benefit of the doubt. This should be interesting. Does anybody know the specifics of the deal? In this economy, I am sure Dave had to swallow a humble pill to get back on the air.

I'm sure he is a nice guy, but after hearing his weekend shows, its repetitive as hell. I'll give him a listen and see what it sounds like, but, I know what I'm getting, and its not very mind expanding.

Give Barry an extra hour (make Barry do an extra hour!), there really isn't too much interesting stuff on in the morning these days, I pretty much listen to Arnie Spanier. One of the sports jock stations should put Bruce on in the morning.

As for my intelligence...well, I can be a dumbass from time to time ;D

Riiiiiiiight. Yawn. So you measure "success" and "never failing" as being fired from every station you've worked for? I'd hate to see what you consider failure.

So even in the remote possibility Pratt ends up on the air at KFYI, I'll take the under and say he lasts fewer than 18 months.

I have to agree with Legend City... Broomhead is boring and dull, and does not sound all that bright. I haven't listened to him in years, does he still use his brother who died fighting overseas as a crutch for every conversation?

Look for big changes at KFYI. They know they can't win in PPM as they now stand. JD will be out next to help make some more money free to pay Pratt. Pratt will do mornings. Barry Young will move to new time of the day. JD will be fired. All of this will happen the day they begin simulcasting on AM and FM.

The Chickboss took a chance with Bruce and he ran with it. While at times Nurse Jeff and I cringed at some of the the things he said, and the way he said them, Jacobs was always entertaining and loved by KFWhyEye listeners. Appealing to all us Nerds on this site was something he didn't care about. Wherever Bruce Jacobs lands, he'll do very well!

sounds like wishful thinking from a lower-rated competitor?

i enjoy kfyi, have been listening since the beginning. been through the "leykis" age, barry leaving, niki padour (sp?), bob mohan, john dayl, etc.

enjoyed speaking to bruce by email and listening to his show. i'm sorry to hear that he is gone.

Smokey Rivers said KFYI audience was too small and so a change had to be made. Those be his words.

there may well be a god after all. the next positive step would be to send barely young to an alzheimer's home.

No way, Mr. Yarbrough-wannabe. We give the Nearly Bald One a hard time here
on the board, but aside from his smarmy disposition and those horribly lame SFX
(OK, and the unneeded multiple names for his sidekick, and the way too many
on-air interruptions), he does a pretty good talk show.

Maybe we're all jealous that he's Mr. Kim Komando. ;D (He probably hates being
called that...but he's a big boy, he can take it.)

With the lunatic now gone, the NBO should really be doing AM drive--which would
also allow El Rushbo and Hannity to air live--but we know he won't do more than
two hours and won't do early mornings, otherwise he'll take his ball and go home
as he probably does fine just from WestStar.

Well you got the smarmy part right. Young's one trick pony act got old about 22 years ago. But he fits in nicely with a motley crew whose orbits never collide with facts or reason. It's like watching the Titanic of radio slowly sink into obscurity.
