Bruce Jacobs fired

Broomhead a very nice guy but just a stop gap. On June 15th a new syndicated morning show goes live, nation wide. This new show has two well known anchors and a host of reporters from The Washington Post newspaper. The fast paced political morning show would fit KFYI totally. Rumor has it that an FM station just outside of Phoenix, that has good valley penetration has been working on a flip to News/Talk and wanted the show.

So does that mean there will be another screeching Luddite flat-earth station trying to steal numbers from an overall diminishing audience? Great! Death of hate speak by a thousand tiny needles. ;D

"...reporters from The Washington Post...would fit KFYI totally..."

ummm... have you ever listened to KFYI? Maybe if it were reporters from the Washington EXAMINER, or maybe even the NEW YORK Post, but I can't see any meeting of the minds between KFYI listeners and the people who run NEWSWEEK.

Have to agree. Maybe if it was reporters from the Washington Times... Or World Nut Daily... Or maybe if Matt Drudge did AM drive.... ;D

Retraction..."not Washington Post"

My information was wrong, the show is being done by the "Washington Times" with John McCaslin and Melanie Morgan anchoring the show. Makes more sense!!! This show represents a full spectrum ranging from breaking investigative reports in real-time to entertainment news, financial news, commentary and point vs. counterpoint. “America’s Morning News” is set to launch Monday, June 15th

Great way to kill the station--run a syndicated morning show from Washington, D.C., with two no name talents who won't be talking about the Valley. I agree with a poster on why Jacobs was shown the door. Economics. Clear Channel is facing possible bankruptcy before the end of the year. The last thing it needs is fat contracts and big bonus payouts. But to cut morning drive? Too bad Ankarlo isn't around or he could move to mornings on KTAR and destroy KFYI in that daypart now. Rotten luck.

It's a new era in the radio business; ratings are secondary to bean counters and cost cutting. If anyone believes that the firing of Bruce Jacobs was a performance based firing then I have some swampland in Yuma to sell you. Clear Channel has tremendous pressure to cut costs and one of the ways to do so is to make some big sacrifices--some of those include on-air talent. It would be incredibly difficult to justify firing Barry Young or even JD Hayworth, but it's easier to justify the hefty contract of Bruce especially when you consider that his contract was up in August and he has hit most of the ratings incentives in it time-and-again. (While I don't know the precise numbers within the contract, I know that Bruce would have commanded some pretty big dollars so Clear Channel didn't want to shell out those bucks).

What a terrible decision on the part of KFYI. I have nothing against Mike Broomhead per se and apparently he's nothing more than a stop-gap until a new replacement is found (one of the worst positions to be in), but I am just not intrigued by his show, it's very typical talk radio with the typical KTAR-style formula, short monologue, throw out question, have callers regurgitate response to said question/topic, yawn.

Lets see, either Bruce or Babs.

I would hate for the market to lose Bruce permanently and I know he'll continue to do work for Fox Sports Radio, however I really hope he does have a local show of some type in the market--sports, news/talk, whatever. While many people on this board don't like him, I think it's for that reason that I especially route for him his success. 15 years in valley radio ain't bad, most of the time with very good ratings--and even in the era of being at 1-on-1 sports, he still did quite well nationally, but couldn't fit to the standard set by the brass upstairs. In any event, I wish Bruce the most success possible and hope to hear him again soon.

Broomhead's show sound like a lecture. He doesn't take enough calls.
He goes on & on & on. At least Bruce would converse with his producer & take a lot of calls.
I can only stand so much of Broomhead, before I have to flip the dial. (too much of one person)

Also....Did Brian do the "Real men of genius" beer commercials?

Broomhead is pretty bland and boring. But maybe the Dude Boss thinks that style of talk is great?

Let's see....the Dudeboss has so many part-timers to fill the shift:

1) Mike Broomhead
2) Terry Gilberg
3) Mike Broomhead
4) Terry Gilberg
5) Mike Broomhead
6) Terry Gilberg
7) Mike Broomhead
8 Terry Gilberg
9) Mike Broomhead
10) Terry Gilberg

Too bad subbing for KFWhyEye would prevent Jim Sharpe from ever working again at KT'R!

Jacobs filled in on a Fox national sports show today, but he sounded like was broadcasting inside a tupperware container.
