Bruce Springsteen

With the appearance by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band at the Super Bowl halftime show just around the corner I ask is it just me or is his music barely, if ever, played on Buffalo or Rochester rock stations? (I know 97 Rock and 'CMF both air Little Steven's U.G.) Just for yuks I went through CMF's current "block party weekend" play list since Friday and not a single song from Bruce. I've heard similar complaints from Bruce fans at his concerts in Roch and Buff. It's not like he isn't still creating very popular music and his tours are still very, very popular. Does anyone else notice the lack of Bruce? Any explanation? His politics? ???

I can't see his politics hurting him in the W.N.Y. area. More likely it can be traced back to the root of all problems with music radio-research and testing.

I do hear Bruce tunes being played frequently on the Lake. I don't listen to 97 Rock as much. But I do remember heaing a set of Bruce music during one of their special weekend promotions at some point during the past year. And 97 Rock does embrace Bruce's music when he comes to town. There's nothing better than hearing 97 Rock's concert replay after you're leaving a Springsteen concert. Plus, I do remember hearing some of Bruce's popular tunes on other stations in Buffalo. I can't vouch for what's happening in Rochester. But I do think Buffalo stations give Bruce his due.

I guess I'm listening to the wrong stations. ;) To be fair to 97 Rock I know Little Steven stopped by in the studio for the concert replay last time he was in town.

I know the FOX gives Bruce a lot of play and Fickle, Warm, and even Legends will play some of his pop stuff. I don't know for sure but I have to imagine that CMF plays some of his stuff as well.

I've heard Bruce songs on a lot of Buffalo stations - 97-Rock, The Lake, Jack, WHTT, even WJYE. What I haven't heard is Bruce in quantity - even on stations that lean more Classic Rock.

I suspect that TVJunkie12 nailed it - Bruce doesn't "test well enough". Tom Petty strikes me as having the same problem - does big business when he's in town, but doesn't get a ton of airplay. Neither artist is real "pop" oriented - although both have some straight-up pop songs in their repertoire.

Makes sense to me, Rox. I suppose fans of nearly every artist could feel their favorite is slighted when it comes to airplay. Of course Led Zep fans couldn't say that with a straight face. ;)

I'm a huge Bruce fan, so I pretty much know who plays what. 97 Rock doesn't play him unless he's coming to town. Then they even have bumper stickers and what have you saying "97 Bruce" - give me a break, they play more ZZ Topp, Boston, etc. in a day than they play Bruce in a month.

The Lake plays an incredible selection of Bruce songs. Songs that I thought I would be the only person in Buffalo who ever heard of them.

Any other station will play Dancing in the Dark and Hungry Heart and that is about it.

See, da problem iz dat youse ain't from Joisey.

If youse was from Joisey, youse would know dat every baby born dere gets a Springsteen CD anna T-shirt instead of dose stupid baby gifts!

We even gotta law dat "Born to Run" iz de Unofficial Youth Anthem of New Joisey!

So dere!

;D

Oh, and I don't hear much Bruce here in Rochester either, except for my iTunes which seems to get hooked on the "Tracks" compilation every few days.
