Bruce St. James to fill Ankarlo slot

From Phoenixaircheecks.com:

Radio veteran and most recent program director of CBS Radio Phoenix’s KMLE and KZON, Bruce St. James, made the announcement today that he will get his start on 92.3 KTAR-FM on Monday.

St. James will take care of the 9am to noon shift– a shift that most recently belonged to Darrell Ankarlo. He is no stranger to KTAR-FM as he had been one of a few wheel of hosts filling in for the 9am to noon shift while Ankarlo continued to recover from a serious injury suffered over a year ago.

Bruce St. James will take late mornings over beginning Monday, May 3.

Good move...even though KOOL Listener Lauren will have to three way split the prize with Nurse Jeff and me on calling this shot! Wonder if TMISU have him squirreled away somewhere getting ready for the 5/03 start? And wasn't that Austin Hill we heard resurfacing on KT'R over the weekend?

Some eating crow in the air here? I think the first to actually publicize fact, not speculation, gets the brass ring on this one.

KOOL Listener Lauren scooped everybody and posted it 10 minutes after Bruce made the announcement. I'd say give her credit for "publishing" fact.  I think, somehow, she knew it before everybody and didn't just take a stab in the dark about it.

I enjoy Dr. Akbar and Nurse Jeff so very much, but suck it up, guys. You wuz beat on da scoop.  She edged everybody on getting it out there officially. Give her a bona fide tip of the inflatable fez in Buckeye!

Good going KOOL Listener Lauren!  And if you see a Gremlin cruising in your neighborhood ... alert the media!

Forget the media.....alert the police!!!

Landtuna - Classic! And no slingshots at the inflatable fez in Buckeye, please. It is a landmark, after all.

Good news, I have a choice for when Barry starts fixating on something stupid and Michelle just throws in annoying commentary.

I wish Barry would dispatch her like John Goodman to Steve Buscemi in "The Big Lebowski"

Good for Bruce and good for Phoenix radio!

The retread alarm is sounding! Bruce St. James already tried a show on KTAR several years ago and was unsuccessful. Phoenix radio never ceases to amaze me, rather than trying out some new or even edgy talent, we are subjected to more of the same. Why not just throw Pat McBland back on the air while we're at it? Or better yet, Preston Westmoreland? I wonder who they rejected for the time slot, now that would be a list I'd love to see!

Isn't Bruce St. James the hip hop program director who claimed that Darin Damme (Krazy Kid) didn't belong on 101.5 Jamz (bout two years ago) becuz it was a hip hop station and becuz he was a 40 year old white guy who hunted Javelinas? How long has Bruce programmed hip hop (and raced stock cars) and now he's a news talk show host? Boy if that isn't the pot calling the kettle black then I don't know what is.

Bruce = Preston? What a stupid statement.

You're right, Preston was on the air for 20 years and at least got some ratings at some point. Bruce was on for about 20 weeks and got no ratings. My apologies for that comparison.

Obviously you missed the point that this is a retread and a boring, unsuccessful choice (based on history).

Bruce St. James comes off like a "do as I say and not as I do" type of character. I wonder if that trait will make for a good talk show host. Me think not. ::)

No offense to Bruce, but it's a just such a safe, boring, very KTAR-like decision.

Can't completely argue with that. Safe choice even though I don't recall too many hip hop guys going talk radio. But it is safe and boring like KFYI hiring Jimmy sharpe. I want something crazy like Sheriff Joe.

Remember This? http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=147288.0

Now.. I'm going to start keeping track of all the ideas, likes, suggestions, and other things I say regarding radio that eventually come to play in radio (and other things in life) down the road! Everything from hip hop declining as the electro-pop/dance sound "takes over" or begins to dominate on U.S. rhythmic / top 40 charts to certain styled syndicated shows that I felt would be a good asset to certain formats, to certain changes I felt that should've been made for the better - that eventually came to be... etc. I wouldn't really call them "predictions", but... I'll just say a lot of what I have in mind (and sometimes share) does tend to usually eventually come to play.

AS FAR AS BRUCE ST JAMES:
I know there may be people out there who may have personal or other forms of relationships / acquaintance with Bruce St James and due to this, may or may not be too fond of him for certain reasons, but as for me personally, I think he sounds fine on talk radio - based on what I've heard so far. I'm not downplaying what anyone else may feel about the situation, but I'm just stating my own opinion on the fashion in which he conducts his talk radio show, and I think he does a fairly good job presenting and discussing the issues in an interesting way. This news about him joining KTAR brings no disappointment to me what so ever. Best wishes to him, KTAR, and everyone else working in radio.

....are some of you posting on the KT'R site? http://ktar.com/?nid=6&sid=1288507 These comments are about as comical as Shakira visiting Mayor Philiberto and Al Sharpton hitting the hot asphalt in July! Thanks Master Blogger for not reading this stuff.

By the way, as I've stated in some other areas of this board many weeks ago, I do not always proofread and check for correct punctuation (in certain cases) in my posts, so what you see is what you get, regardless of whether or not it says "last edited...".

I would've preferred Jim Sharpe filling midday slot but oh well. I will have to check out Bruce and see how he does on the show. Always wonder what the guy looked like, now I have a face with the name.
