BRUCE WILLIAMS HANGS UP HEADSETS

All Access site states Bruce Willams will do his last show March 5th. I don't there are any Boston station that carries his show. He's been around for a long time, back to the TALK-NET era with NBC radio.

there is a thread here on R-I somewhere, and it has been all over the net.

He gave the affiliates like 2 weeks notice he was hanging up his headphones.

That must have some PD's heads spinning trying to hook up with someone else. I don't know what Global is going to offer in his place. Plus he had a block of time on XM too.

He was on WRKO at night at one point IIRC back in the day.

2 weeks notice he is folding his tent just has me scratching my head.

Bruce was "Da Bomb" way back.
I used to enjoy him.
I read from some comments on an S/XM board that he was too political of late.

I'm glad to hear he's going off. Having to board-op his show back in the late '90s was torture. I was in college working at a 1kW Class C down south & a friend would come over. Since we both liked talk radio but wanted something more exciting, we'd scan the SEDAT, DATS & SCPC channels looking for more exciting programming. Williams was coma-inducing.

All the best to Bruce on his retirement.

Bruce has been in radio for a LONG time; I'm sure he just decided he wants to start going to sleep at a decent hour for a change. :)

His clear successors are Dave Ramsey and Clark Whatsizzname from Cox in Atlanta. Financial talk for the rest of us.

So was Sally Jesse Raphael back in those times. A couple of years ago, she tried launching a comeback on radio, which was carried in the Providence market by 1320-WARL.

She tried doing a "caller-less" show, featuring a regular panel, and also including rotating guest "contributors". Sally gave it a good try, but I really think the business has passed her by. Too bad......

I used to hear Bruce Williams on a regular basis, as I
board opped during his show. WHDH 850 used to carry him
in the Boston area. He had a wealth of experiences in a
number of areas, both business and political. I always found
him interesting, though he was definitely not looking to be
"entertaining"...

I guess everyone in America ALREADY has a will, and four jobs.

well he hasn't been happy over the past year since xm pulled him except for one hour off their air waves so i assume he thinks its time to go

Talknet's Dr. Harvey Rubin! Now you're talking. He was a good natured guy.
Every time he visited HDH we made something stupid to play him like this from 1990, he genuinely laughed. No one will remember his style and this is really pushing esoteric, but since you mentioned his name:

Bruce came to HDH once for a celebrity Poker game and another time to give a lecture at the World Trade Center Boston. Very intense guy, but I think a good guy.

I love it, but I am hesitant to say "those were the days." I hadn't arrived in Boston yet when Bob and Ray left for New York. Duuno whether you had yet arrived at 'HDH when Bob and Ray were there. Weren't they on in PM drive? And didn't 'HDH carry both the Red Sox and Braves PBP? (Which team had priority in the event of a conflict? And did the team that got bumped go to another station or was the bumped game broadcast on delay? Or was the away game delayed? If so, delaying the away game would have solved the problem of non-existent or immature taping technology; the delayed broadcast could have been re-created from the ticker.) If 'HDH did have both teams and B&R were on in PM drive, with the higher percentage of afternoon games back then, how many days a week on average could B&R have been on the air during baseball season? Nevertheless, from what I've heard, THOSE were the days! Now, if Jess Cain had been at 'HDH at the same time as Bob and Ray (almost positive he was not), what an incredible legacy THAT would be!

Loved Bruce. Mrs. Rover and I would listen, learn, and laugh at the inevitable "now, whaddaya wanna do THAT for". ;D

Hi Dan, I got there loooong after B & R. Decades in fact. Jess was doing mornings, nights was all Talknet: Bruce, Harvey Rubin, etc.

Yeah talknet was great. Definitely a good way to wrap up the day. I was only a teenager at the time, but I listened everynight anyway. I have the talknet theme in my music library. I don't even remember how I got it, but I just uploaded it for you guys at the link below. It sure brings back some memories.

I had the honor of briefly meeting him at the NAB getogether in Boston in 1990. He had a rowboat filled with postcards from his "nobodys", his regular listeners, to show how well his program was received. Mr. Williams made a career out of answering the same questions over and over and
could give entertaining answers to questions from listeners such as "How can I screw the tax people" or "They lost my suit at the cleaners, whadda I do now?"
