Bruno wooed, then snubbed by KSPN?

Former syndicated and LA sports talker Tony Bruno is reporting on his website(www.tonybrunoshow.com) that ESPN 710 wooed him for the afternoon job for several months then snubbed him when it came time to make an offer to replace the dismal Dave Demashek show. Guess that "brand name" thing doesn't work for ESPN when it comes to actually competing and spending money in a major daypart with a real talent. Watch them insert some generic sportscenter hairdo in hopes of getting better than a .3 rating. Bruno, I believe lives in LA and is unemployed while every recycled and failed host who jumps from station to station are still on the air? Aparantly, ESPN suits decided he had too much baggage? Olbermann and Michael Irvin had much more baggage and KO napalmed bridges and they were both re-hired by the World Wide Leader in hypocrisy. No wonder KSPN is a disaster!

I love Tony Bruno, but what is it you don't like about Demeshek?

In his brief time in Pittsburgh I thought he was a breath of fresh air.

I have no problem with Demeshek, ESPN has given up on this guy and obviously has no intention of replacing him with someone better. Bruno is better and available and ESPN is gutless and will fill with some no name host.

When's the last time Dameshek went more than 5 minutes on the air without mentioning his association with either Jimmy Kimmel or Adam Carolla? I'm guessing he does it off the air too...self-validation or something like that.

What I liked about Dameshek in Pittsburgh, and I haven't listened to him in Los Angeles so perhaps he does namedrop a lot, was that he came off as a fan to other fans.

There wasn't anyone in Pittsburgh doing that at the time. He did bits- decent ones- which, again, nobody else was doing.

He was more interested in getting the young, cutting edge reporter or- GASP!- blogger on as a guest than he was the beat guy from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette or Tribune-Review for the 30th time in a month.

And, yes, he had on Jimmy Kimmel.

His show was not a ratings success in LA, and the station is in danger of not showing up at all in the PPM world. Sounds like he has a fan base in Pittsburgh; perhaps he would be better served going where the audience is.

Come on Jimmy DeCastro's Content Factory...pick up Bruno...he needs to be on nationally syndicated radio...

May Jim DeCastro at "The Content Factory" in Chicago will come up with a plan to launch Bruno in syndication as did Dan Patrick from the same firm.

Patrick's done ok with the deal.

Maybe lightning will strike twice.

I had the exact same thought.

I could easily see a schedule of either (all times eastern):

* Dan Patrick (9-12 AM), followed by Tony Bruno (12 - 3 PM); or

* Tony Bruno (6-9 AM), followed by Dan Patrick (9-12 AM)

Looks like ESPN will make a safe and cheap hire by giving ego maniac JA Adande the pm drive shift. Didn't they learn from the fiasco at 570 when those dopes hired TJ Simers, his tramp daughter and Fred Roggin to do a morning show which lasted last then a year? Adande is another former LA times scribe who fled to ESPN.com and seems more interested in being a celebrity than a reporter/journalist. Be careful in da clubs J A, the ESPN blog-haters will be all over you and those blonde bimbos you'll be pimpin'

They could have had a proven talent in Bruno but settle for a guy who will get no better than the .3 Demeshek was able to draw. How long before they clean house in that sinking ship? So much for that great brand name!

Consider this: they already have Roggin on the payroll, and have re-teamed Mason & Ireland to un-do the mess they made last winter by firing Ireland. Why not move Mason & Ireland back to afternoons and give Roggin middays? Oh yeah...forgot to mention that Roggin never showed in the ratings in his 5 years hosting middays on his last radio gig. But now he's got a better signal to work with.

they'll never clean house at ESPN, or any of their O&O's......when you're the first name that rolls off the tounge when you say "sports television" you can do whatever you want.
