BRUTAL SPORTSTALK IN ATLANTA!!!!

But are they selling lots of commercials? Most likely 680 and 790 are. 92.9 is a result of CBS radio's national sports effort.

Atlanta with it's large number of transplants isn't like a lot of markets were there is a lot of local team loyalties. You can even get out of state "team" license plates. I not a GA native or a UGA / GT fan, but IMHO it seems weird seeing GA issued tags with the FL Gator, FL State, AL or Auburn logos. My wife even wanted a UT tag but balked at the extra expense.

SPORTSTALK is awful in Atlanta..I logged on today and all the sports stations are awful

Welcome to the forums of RadioDiscussions. I just read through everything you have posted since joining up.

Do you have some suggestions to offer Atlanta's sports stations? Maybe you could offer some suggestions of things that could or should change in Atlanta sports broadcasting. But do take it easy. That would require that you create a post that had a complete sentence. Probably two complete sentences. I don't want you to strain yourself by taking on a task that is will stretch you to the point of pain.

I am reminded of the old saying about people living in glass houses refraining from being rock-throwers. Demonstrate for us (via your verbiage) that you are qualified to offer improvements to sports broadcasting in Atlanta.

cowboy.....better talent....zero numbers means very little result

Welcome to RadioDiscussions.com and happy 24 hour anniversary.

Do you mean that Atlanta needs better talent? Or, does Atlanta sportstalk have better talent that is not producing results? Which of the three Atlanta sports stations are you referring to?

I, too, have read everything you posted spread across several boards. It is appreciated to use complete sentences with punctuation and capitalization of appropriate letters so we can better understand your thoughts. That is the usual custom in the RadioDiscussions online community.

There was a recent thread here about June audience ratings. The two A.M. stations apparently each had a 0.5 audience.

What do all sports station gather for an audience in other markets?

Sports, overall, is not a highly rated format, but is one of the highest billing formats in all of radio. Among the highest-rated is WEEI Boston. I haven't seen their ratings lately, but I've seen them get over a 5 share. Sports work there because more people there than Atlanta tend to be from Boston or close by. Their teams also have more winning traditions, making for a loyal fan base.

true..some mkts dont get great ratings....especially in the south....look at the stations in the southeastern part of the country....not alot of great numbers from sports stations..wdae is probally the highest rated station of all of them and they are about a 2.4 as an average...so your point is taken

Currently in Boston, WBZ-FM 98.5 is destroying WEEI in the ratings. If I'm not mistaken, in June, WBZ pulled a 5.7 share, while WEEI had a 3.3 share. And in most Sports market, a 3.3 share isn't so bad. In fairness to Atlanta, and other spots, Boston is a rabid sports town. With WCNN 680 not subscribing, it's hard to tell if its 3 low rated sports stations in Atlanta or if WCNN actually has good numbers. One more thing that I will point out is that the AM sports stations in Atlanta have some signal issues. 680 probably has the better signal, but I wonder how their antenna is aimed, and I have heard about 790's issues.

Sports Talk stations in Atlanta have never had big ratings though 680 The Fan has popped up in the top several stations among men 25-54 at times from 6AM-7PM on weekdays. The signal issues for 680 and 790 are at night only; both have super daytime signals.

Sometimes the format can make a ton of money despite low shares. 790 The Zone at one time was doing that.

It's hard to say whether 92-9 The Game will ever get sizable ratings even in its core male demos. In my opinion, the station is doing a lot of things the right way. They've invested tons in the product but have had virtually no outside promotion, which they will need.
