BRW: How much stations made (WBCN big drop; why 'RKO added Sox...)

http://www.bostonradiowatch.com

Boston Radio Watch lists revenues of local stations. "According to the data provided to Boston Radio Watch by Virginia-based BIA Financial Network, WBCN’s revenues fell by 32% between 2005 and 2006. The station went from earning $26.5 million in 2005 to $18 million in 2006."

The top 2 earners were WEEI ($36 M) and WBZ ($35 M). See the list at that site (he also notes that
WKOX and WXKS earned $800,000 last year but had there been a local show, better marketing, and
had they waited for WKOX's power boost, they could have made considerably more. And WRKO's
addition of the Red Sox could mean a big move up in income, if WEEI's numbers in that department
show you anything...

As I've said before, the hiring of Tom Finneran is a small potatoes matter for the station: they will make their
money off "BIG PAPI STRIKES AGAIN!!" That should offset whatever money they lose from the talk shows.
Even if Finneran flops, they should make a tidy profit. The station's reputation as a talker is another matter
of course...
