BRW: When will RKO cut Finneran loose?/'RKO-FM...

In the latest Boston Radio Watch http://www.bostonradiowatch.com Mark says it's a matter
of when, not if, Finneran gets his walking papers at 'RKO (though could they actually hold on
to him despite the low ratings?). He also wonders if 'RKO might simulcast the 'EEI or 'AAF morning
shows on 680 or perhaps, since people are moving to FM talk, put 'RKO on 97.7 as well.

A friend of mine in Ohio says FM talk nationally is not doing well in ratings or billings but I note in his own
area WNIR/Kent (Akron area) is consistently #1 (an FM talker) while here WTKK is doing pretty well.

BRW: "The 15-month old morning drive experiement with Tom Finneran is clearly over. It's just matter of when and how WRKO is going to pull the plug ...another option is to simulcast some and/or all of WRKO AM's line-up on 97.7FM which currently simulcasts rocker WAAF 107.3FM."

Mark is entitled to his opinion, but if they have not cut him loose by now, after several bad books, AND Lobbyist attempt #1, and Lobbyist (I'm doing it I don't care what Jason or Jule says about it) Episode 2, I don't think they are going to admit they made a mistake nor have any of the parties look bad in public by letting him go.

Finneran isn't stupid, his contract probably has a handsome payout if they decide to send him to the beach.

Besides can you imaging the mileage Howie would get out of this in the print media? He would be muzzled on the radio but they'd have to clear cut North America to have enough newsprint for Howie's writings on the subject.

Finnerans Forum with co host Marjorie O'Neil Claprood Spinazolla.... could be.

Yup--and I forget how long the deal is but it's prob 2 years at least. Move him to weekends, maybe,
after the Spackle And Paste informercials :)

That would be the same beach that Jason told John Dennis & Gerry Callahan to take a walk on, right?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn"t WRKO put someone on overnight to frustrate them enough to quit? If I'm not mistaken, I believe it was Andy Mose. If they did that to Andy, who by the way everyone loved may he rest in piece; how could they not do something like that to a guy with no talent that nobody likes.

To save on big dollar severances, WBZ did it with two of the talent, Dave Maynard and Bob Raleigh, screwing with Raleigh, in particular, in ways that were almost laughable.

Didn't quite work out the way Group Wonderful intended.

wbz just ate lobel's multimillion dollar contract and lobel was a 'name' in boston for 29 years. the suits didn't even blink. they wanted him out.

finniefoof is probably on of those 15 minute of fame celebrity contracts that has more escape clauses than houdini's act.

Yes ChrisNH, Jason did tell them to go pound sand, by taking them off the air just as their contract was about to expire and while they were rumored to be in negotiations with Nassau.

In a brilliant move they managed to tell their #1 rated talent to pound sand, make an agreement with the suitors of said #1 rated talent to form a regional network, and then flake the deal once the talent had re-upped and went crawling back to Guest street, with sand in their bathing suits.

Finneran is a different situation, he is under contract, he is doing what they ask of him, so far they don't have an "out" to get out of their contractual obligations, so unless they find an 'out" or he asks to be released, I'd assume they are on the hook for some cash.
