BRW: WWZN to add local morning show

today, WWZN had an ad offering the opportunity to time-lease shows... 'start your career in sports radio' or something like that. I wonder what the new local show will be like. The national "Morning Show" is pretty good--and they talk a lot about Boston sports. One of them (Spiegel) is a die-hard Sox fan. And no "Headlines" segment--it's a SPORTS show.

The big lie about liberal or progressive talk is that if it could make its way in the marketplace, the businessmen (usually men) who own radio stations would be happy to put AirAmerica/Jones Radio shows on their stations. During the daylight hours, WXKS-AM got a solid whole number to the left of the decimal point with Stephanie Miller, Al Franken and Ed Schultz. (NOTE: I didn't care that much for Ed during those months, but he has been a very effective guest on MSNBC for the past few weeks.) I submit that WWZN and WTTT could make a respectable showing with a similar mix of AAR and Jones shows, but for some unfathomable "reasons" they prefer low or even non-existent ratings to their current programming...and the shakeup at Salem Communications' HQ probably won't change that.

Yes I don't know why WTTT hasn't shaken up their lineup (no show in the ratings) and why WWZN is
sticking with sports (ditto) even to the point of doing some rent-a-shows.

Prog talk is still on in some places like L.A. (with Clear Channel, yet) and maybe (I've said this so many
times before) had CC put on a daily local host, on a semi-powerful station, with promotion, it could have
caught on.
Suppose a company like Saga (not Salem) owned 590--that could be prog talk and a half decent signal...
Salem and the new owners of WWZN need to do something to get some ratings, though maybe they can
still "bill" well...or at least they feel a "comp. in a closet" would make a very slight profit with syndie
programming...

if local shows were added, it could make a diff...then again, 1150 and 1510 have signal problems.
