Bubba returns to Tampa Radio

Then what's this all about as reported right here on Radio-Info?

Sirius - and the Howard 101 channel - gave Todd Clem a shot after he was dropped by Clear Channel (for content and FCC reasons) at WXTB, Tampa. Now the satcaster renews the Bubba the Love Sponge 3-7pm afternoon show, with Entertainment and Sports President Scott Greenstein saying that "Bubba has created an enthusiastic national fan base since he launched his show on Howard 101."

Just because Bubba is on Sirius channel 101 weekdays 3-7pm doesn't mean he can't do morning drive on The Bone 102.5 as well. MJ does it on 933flz and 970 WFLA.

I must admit, when I was in Tampa, Bubba never suited me. I felt he was more crude than creative. Still though, I can see where he has a certain appeal with a "certain" Tampa Bay demographic. Will be interersting to see how things evolve with Bubba on The Bone.

Crude but an excellent communicator.

Like I said on the Cleddus topic..the other other market extraordinary that needsto be back in the morning mix is Cleveland Wheeler. Before he congloms diced up the formats, Wheeler had 34 shares on the market!!!!

QYK should be looking at him (wherever he is) to energize the market again.

Hell, even Scott Shannon is in Tampa, playing oldies from Pasco county.

I must say Cowhead is amazing, and with both him AND Bubba on the single station. Bubba mornings, Cowhead afternoons, and maybe the station should take a more active rock role such as 98Rock. And, you have an amazing station worthy of taking on 98Rock. Can you see it? I can. I wonder if Cox has the guts to try it. We'll see. 97X and 102.5 The Bone, Cox will have rock covered.

I presume somebody is getting knocked off the Bone in afternoons. Slater has the type of professional voice that would be good for a 3rd announcer on the Eagle or drive time on the DOVE. If Cox can pay Bubba, they need to help the Eagle too.

Like him or not he brings ratings, and I see a big jump coming to The Bone once Bubba hits the free airwaves once more in the Bay area.

I always thought 98 Rock should build on it's 27 years as a rock station (1977-1983 & 1986-now) and stop trying to appeal to teenagers. With "Thunder" gone and "The Bone" getting younger, there is room for an adult rock station. They've already got the heritage name and dial position.

Another pay radio guy who wants to be heard by a mass audience again. Sure satellite has national reach, but with 200+ channels to chose from, the odds of being heard by many people are not that great. Same with the internet.

I'd bet the Sirius gig doesn't actually pay that much.

Plus, with the merger maybe on the way, he could actually be concerned about his eventual future there. I think you'll see a decrease in the number of total available programming once that process is complete (although I spoke with a rep from Sirius last week and he said he's been told that the two services will maintain separate identities for "quite some time.")

imho...i dont think money has anything to do with it...actually...let me rephrase that...i think money has EVERYTHING to do with it, only, i dont think its a lack of paycheck from Sirius...i think its a case of..."hey, opie & anthony can pull 2 shifts a day, why cant i...who COULDNT use some more $$$"...i'll also bet that his crew benefits from added work...more money for all is always a good thing...

in my short time, i have found that people who bitch and complain about "not making enough money"...or "there is no money in radio"...those are often the ones who want to make the most money for the least amount of work...dead end night jocks say they make no money, then they show up 10 minutes before air time, do minimal, then leave an hour before the shift ends (VT)...

Bubba proved right here than there is money to be had in radio...but you gotta want to pull a double everyday...

"He moves to afternoon drive 3-7pm."
He should try to steal Braden Gunn from FUS,,Those two were great together on the Replacments show on the old 1010. As many times Cowhead mentions him on his show you'd think they worked in the same building. I know still they're friends.
