Bubba the Love Sponge - 93 Rock

I have heard that Bubba takes over morning drive in October on this station. Is that true? If it is, there is finally someone to give Paul and Ron some competition. They are horrible in the mornings and have only stayed on due to lack of a viable competitor.

Chill out, its not a rumor but FACT. We here in Central Florida are reaping the benefits of his show and monster ratings. He has demolished competition here in Tampa/St. Pete, he's crushing MJ and Lex & Terry in Jacksonville. Cox Radio has a winner here and he will go head to head against Pauly and Young Ron. Cox is going after every CC Rocker in big Florida markets. Oh, and by the way, he announced it on his show this past week, he "will be in Miami before the year is out." Its not a rumor and will finally put some friggin personality into 93 Rock. Besides, how much Fleetwood Mac and Harry Chapin do we have to hear on Big 105.9? That's not classic rock, that's classic garbage............Poor cheap channel, gonna get ready for another meltdown, this time in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale.

I work for CC in SF. Trust me, we know Cox is putting BTLS on. I don't know if it's going to work here. We already had one redneck morning show cause Zeta to go bye bye.

My guess he's on by January.

So it was Lex and Terry that made Zeta go belly up? Gee, and all this time I thought it was the sh**ty programming they had on the other 20 hours of the day.

Yeah, no kidding, there were other reasons for the demise of Zeta. It wasn't Lex and Terry, they were never given a chance. You got it, Bubba is a much more formidable competitor. If I were Pauly and Ronny I'd be worried. Clear Channel is gonna get ready to panic, wait until you see the numbers. Bubba is for real, like him or not, he gets and keeps the numbers. He will certainly have a MAJOR impact in South Florida.

Not denying that he will likely shake things up in any market that he lands in, but how long do you think it will be before he does something to get him fired/fined/indicted again?

Listen, I'm not the biggest Bubba fan, but it is a milder show, still controversial and too Tampa focused but nonetheless a very good show. Its interactive, topical and downright funny. Clearly, he's going to make an impact on South Florida. The Cox folks know the line, so does he. They straddle the fence but I really don't think will be fined, suspended or fired unless they really screw up.

Here's the best news...................93 Rock finally gets some personality.................

The one thing you guys are missing here is Zeta couldn't sell Lex and Terry. Everyone felt it was "too southern" for a station like Zeta.
So I agree that Lex and Terry was the final nail in Zeta's coffin.

It seems to me that it was a typical cheap and easy CC measure to plug the hole after they moved Paul and Ron to 105.9 following the departure of Stern in hopes that they could somehow shore up that station. They'd have put 4 hours of NOAA radio on the air if the boys in San Antonio told them that it was a good idea. I don't think they had any intention of making Zeta work, regardless of who was doing mornings, and their track-record of making once great radio stations throughly unlistenable is all the proof I need.

Strangelove, I agree with your post too. The funny is, according to friends of mine in the building, there are rumors that Cheap Channel might dumped Mega and put Zeta back on! That would be unbelievable.

LOL...having been a part of format flips and major changes like that, I can assure you that your friends know nothing. Only a few people would know anything about those kinds of major moves, and those that DO know, would know the impact of such info becoming public. They wouldn't be sharing it.

They already have Zeta on 105.9's HD-2 channel but I don't see them bringing it back on a main channel any time soon. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see them flush at least one AM and one or two FMs at some point rather than try to re-tool them into another flop of a format.

Death to Cheap Channel!!!
BUBBA'S WORLD...
BUBBA'S WORLD...
BUBBA'S WORLD...

For the record Roger, there were rumors about Zeta FOR MONTHS in that building before it flipped.

All it takes is one person to find out from management.

Yeah, because Howard Stern wasn't a viable competitor. Here's the reality, Bubba will hurt P&YR 18-34, that's all. Strippers, WWE, and all blue all the time doesn't fly down here, history proves that. Mark my words...Bubba's 1st FCC issue will come courtesy of a SoFla listener on 93.1. As for his dominance in Tampa, regardless of his hiatus from the market he's still the heritage show...always will be. He picked up right where he left off. As for Orlando...lol, right Orlando...Big time talent there!

I will give you this...P&YR will have to step it up, no doubt...i look forward to hearing if they are up to the challenge.

Here's a random thought...what if CC tosses P&YR on north of the Gater...turn this impending Miami battle into a statewide battle. Ahh...it could be like the good 'ole days! Bring back the Rock Wars!

That will never happen because Paul and Ron are killing the Gater. Look at the numbers and then look at the numbers of Real Radio since Bob and Tom were put on. (again Lex and Terry stinking up the joint)
Nobody cares about Paul and Ron except Miami/Ft Lauderdale. That's it. One tough ratings book, OK.
2 books that's another story.
WPB never wanted them in the first place. Paul's ego and Cheap Channel being Cheap Channel made that happen.

You saying Howard wasn't a viable competitor shows your lack of knowledge. On NUMEROUS occasions, Howard beat them in the ratings soundly. Let's get David Eduardo to pipe in to give you the truth. You are clueless.

C'mon Culprit...Bubba is really gonna pound P&YR when he couldn't even win in Hartford?

Here's clueless, you thinking that redneck radio will play down here...

Yeah, Clear Channel slugging it out with... Clear Channel. Who voice-tracks better? Who can play the same Boston song more times in the same day? It's like battling for the gold medal at the Special Olympics.

What I'm talking about is Paul and Ron being put on all over the state of Florida. That is a joke.
