Bubba The Love Sponge Coming to WCCC?

I am hearing a strong rumor that Bubba The Love Sponge is coming back to Hartford Radio on WCCC around the start of the new year. As you might remember Bubba was in Hartford before on Radio 104. His numbers were not bad and when he came to town for events he had a really strong following.

Could this move be part of the reason for some of the changes at WCCC lately?

This at a time when Bubba has recently seen his terrestrial radio affiliates all but cut in half. All but one of his radio affiliates were Cox-owned stations.

It'd seem a little odd if that move were to happen. If that were the plan, why would they pull Picozzi a month ago and plug Raven into mornings? Not to say it can't happen, but it'd seem odd to not hold Picozzi until the new year and then move him to an off-air PD role.

I enjoy Bubba and listen to him online, but I'd prefer they keep Raven on at WCCC. His show is the first listenable morning show they've had there since Sebastian left.

I am still hearing that this will happen and will happen over the new year. It appears that the head of Marlin Broadcasting Randy Michaels has strong ties to Bubba and since COX is cutting Bubba loose as his contract expires in 2012 he will move over to Marlin owned stations including WCCC.

Randy Michaels also has heavy ties to Bubba's RadioIO service as well.

Could get interesting.

Oh geez...

1) As stated by halloran, Randy Michaels heads up Merlin Broadcasting, not Marlin Broadcasting. Absolutely no connection between the two companies.

2) The only MARLIN owned stations left are WCCC (AM) which is classical Beethoven Radio with Imus in the Morning, WCCC-FM, and WBOQ Gloucester, MA. WCCC-FM would be the only station where he'd fit.

3) MERLIN only has two all-newsers... Bubba wouldn't fit there either.

Either way, I stopped listening mostly to the radio and this comes from a die hard. Like I really want to her Bon Jovi or a tired Led Zepplin song for the billionth time.

WBOQ is an interesting station, too -- a soft-leaning classic hits format with a pretty deep playlist (Think Jim Croce's "One Less Set of Footsteps" for starters.). It is also run on the ultra-cheap -- live in a.m. and p.m. drive, an automated jukebox (not even voicetracked) all other hours, including all weekend.

Boy, does ANYONE check their facts anymore before posting? "Points toward WLUP Chicago, and looks at the ground." I dont see that happening, as it would instantly become his largest market. But I guess it's plausible.

You've got to give ScottG credit for trying... it sounded like a believable rumor up until he posted that "follow up".

Just posting what I am hearing.

I should be talking to someone from the Bubba show this week for an update. :)

Oh right! How could I have forgotten the real crown jewel of Merlin, WLUP. ::)

Just an update, spoke to someone from the show who tells me that the deal for Hardford has "Blowed up" and that they are still working on a deal.

More as I hear it.

I listened to a little of BTLS on WHPT in (Sarasota) Tampa, as well as The Cowhead Show (former co-host with BTLS) and the Cowhead show is much funnier. But I don't think there are any plans to syndicate that show.

Either Way Morning shows SUCK!
the only one I seem to be able to listen to is Tom-O and Mr. Mike on 105.1 TOS when I am up in Vermont.
WCCC is doing pretty good at Night 6-12 when I am traveling. I just can;t stand it when we start getting burned to a crisp songs.
