Bubba The Love Sponge / New Contract? Where?

I find it extremely hard to believe Bubba would ever end up on a Clear Channel station, let alone WXTB ever again. I mean come on... this guy's burned bridges with someone at almost every radio group in Tampa Bay. I really don't see any other choice he has except than to stay at 102.5. That's if he wants to remain "on air" in Tampa Bay. I mean seriously.... rule out Clear Channel and what's left? A flip at CBS's 98.7? For Bubba? No way.

From All Access:

ALL ACCESS hears that COX Classic Rocker WHPT (102.5 THE BONE)/TAMPA morning star BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE is nearing the end of his current deal, and is in "best of mode" until the end of DECEMBER.
Will he sign the COX deal currently on the table? Or, does a last minute offer from crosstown CLEAR CHANNEL Active Rocker WXTB (98 ROCK), his former home, potentially become a game changer?
While this doesn't affect BUBBA's syndicated deals at BEASLEY Classic Rocker WRXK (96.1 KROCK)/FT. MYERS, or LM Active Rocker (WYBB 98 ROCK)/CHARLESTON, SC, or a new syndicated Top 15 market being announced on JANUARY 5th ... the question still lingers ... where will BUBBA end up on JANUARY 4th, in TAMPA?

Sounds as though the "week-end guy" is already busy working over at All Access.

Cox should put him overnights on Magic. I heard he used to do a nightime music show on the Power Pig. True?

I'm hearing the " new Cox " is concocting a strict % of sales deal. Bubba only gets paid when the advertisers pay......AND he's got to do a board op shift when asked on the Dove.

Interesting speculation, but I simply don't see how Clear Channel (especially in their current ownership situation) pays a big contract to ANYONE. Top talent is taking pay cuts or shown the door. Big money makers are Premiere talent, not on the CC payrolls. Bubba either stays at Cox or jumps to whatever new format comes at CBS... and I think 98.7 is in play because a non-compete would likely expire for Bubba if/when CBS blows up 98.7 for talk.

Your last sentence has 2012 looking as though it will be a very interesting year.

Bubba should be careful with CC. One of their favorite tricks, which they have done numerous times all over the country, is to sign someone to a non-compete contract, then fire them after 90 days. That effectivley eliminates that person from the market. I've seen it done many times with Air talent and sales people. One of CC's favorite ploys.

Sounds bad. I always thought non competes were for 6 months or 12 months.
