Bubba the Love Sponge no longer on 95.3 WZLR

From Dayton Daily News:

Radio station drops ‘Bubba the Love Sponge’

By Amelia Robinson | Friday, March 4, 2011, 11:23 AM

The love has been lost between 95.3 The Eagle (WZLR-FM) and “Bubba the Love Sponge.”

The radio station has dropped the syndicated morning radio show in favor of classic hits from the 80s, said program director Nick Roberts.

The station switched its format featuring 80’s and 70’s hits last year. The changed was embraced by the audience, Roberts said, noting that listeners asked for music during the morning, the most popular time of day for music on the radio.

“Bubba the Love Sponge” first aired on WZLR in March of 2009.

WZLR, which like the Dayton Daily News is part of the Cox Media Group, now features music from bands like Def Leppard, Bon Jovi and Aerosmith.

I like 95.3 a lot more since they got back to rockin' harder. I tried to get into Bubba but just couldn't get pumped about his Florida feud and over-the-border language. People either love him or hate him, there's no middle ground, so look for a pile of complaints from his fans and a pile of compliments from the people who wanted more music in the morning. Send flowers and candy to Nick Roberts who has to try to please as many people as possible while handling the complaints with class and patience.

Forgot to mention that Kahuna1 will be officially in mourning and has threatened to burn his Bubba Nation p.j.'s on courthouse square to protest. :p

Nick is classy and super smart. I hope they hire a personality who adds local content. Compelling local content is the only thing that will save radio from the emerging technology.

Bye Bye Bubba. I wonder if this move was to compete with Fly 92.9 more, since they play music in the morning. I'm sure Bubba cost them some listeners in morning drive.

Wow! Didn't think they'd ever drop Bubba. I remember they got a lot of complaints when they first put him on. It was kinda weird because it's a syndicated morning show, then no other jocks, just music every other time. It's probably a good idea to go 100% music considering they do get an audience who wants music and Fly 929 was pumping out the music. I did like Bubba though. Oh... and for the record, The Eagle plays more hits than Fly. Fly has definitely added a lot more tunes, but some unfamiliar ones? Maybe just to my generation haha. I recognize a lot of what's played on The Eagle though. I wonder with the new PD, will Fly ever meet the swatter?

I doubt Mark Waldo is going to flip Fly himself. Fly is Mainline's baby, so i'd imagine that a flip would have to come from corporate, and the odds of that happening are slim to none, and slim just left town. I read that Waldo helped launch Liberty 98-9 so that's probably why ML brought him aboard to be PD for Fly. I hear a lot of complaining on here about unfamiliar tunes on Fly but I haven't heard too many. I'm actually glad Fly shook up their playlist. The last few months that Steve Weed was there and with Scott Sharp and Garth Adams filling in programming Fly between PDs it really needed refreshed. Personally I welcome different tunes. There's only so much REO Speedwagon one guy can take. ;)

Oh darn.. let me pull out the kleenex... NOT

Bubba the Love Sponge has always been a wanna-be junior version of Howard Stern...

He's been here once before in the Cincinnati market.

Good-bye... no one is going to miss your sorry ass.

See ya BTLS.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Classic! 8)

Oh Tank....You ignorant S_ _ t ;D Now that I'm not commuting an hour each way each day, I don't think I'll miss him. BTW, his over the air show was completely different than his Sirius only show...like night and day! Sirius dropped as of the first of the year when Stern signed his new contract, so now my only option would be to move to Tampa (which BTW sounds pretty good given the weather around here)
