According to the Tampa board, COX is bringing BTLS Show to WDYL. That could revive WDYL like it did WHPT, but------------Tampa has no Bobby Ukrop. The Ukrops ran Howard St ern out of town. Will the old guard Richmond establishment allow BTLS to grace the airwaves? Will BTLS pick a fight with the Q94 Morning Show. Will BUBBA Get a statue in the Fan if this works. Will this hurt Bill Bevins and Catfish? Enquiring minds want to know.

I think the biggest harm is to Elliot in the Morning on 102.1. BTLS is a better morning show, I think, than Elliot.

Cox will probably wait until around that time to move to 100.9 since all the pieces of the puzzle are now in place. I would expect a slightly tweaked format: A little more like a cross between sister WHPT in Tampa and their active rock station in Miami, WHDR. I'd watch out for more Ozzy, AC/DC, GnR, and Pink Floyd mixed in with the new stuff. This is how almost all Cox rock stations are programmed (save the current Y-101 and 97X in Tampa)

Now all this, a new signal, BTLS (who could be a huge hit in Richmond), and a tweaked music library could hurt 102.1

If Elliot fails on the X, watch out. We might be seeing some changes at 102.1. Maybe not a full-on format flip, but maybe a little more alternative lean if 100.9 goes older.

This puts Cox in a good sales position, too: "Everything that rocks" on 100.9, Older-leaning classic rock on 96.5 and country on 95.3. Definitely would be a strong lock on males 25+ in Richmond.

I'm not kidding. Would Ukrop's not try to stop him like they did Stern on WVGO-----or is Cox too powerful ? Or has Ukrop's corporate culture changed? I presumed that John Boy and Billy passed the test because in spite of the dumb jokes, they were just good ole boys having fun.

I think Ukrop's is not as big of a force in Richmond as they were 10 years ago. Now, Kroger, Food Lion, and Wal-Mart make a store that closes on Sundays and doesn't sell beer seem kind of stodgy...

Now people will always go to Ukrop's (I personally love the White House rolls). But first, I think Ukrop's advertised a lot on ABS Broadcasting (owners of Stern-era WVGO and WBZU). As far as I remember, Ukrop's threatened to remove their advertising from all of the ABS stations (this also included K-95 at the time). TV stations got wind of this and next thing you know ABS had to drop a $250,000 contract with Stern or risk losing several advertisers from the "Ukrop's Effect".

Stern was the only real thing propping up WVGO since it was purchased by ABS. 'VGO tried to be edgy enough to appeal to Howard, but not grungy enough to destroy 104.7. After ABS had to remove Stern, there was no point in keeping modern-ish rock on two stations. So, WVGO had the tainted name and failing format. Stern's last day in Richmond was consequently WVGO's last day before simulcasting (and taking over) the Buzz format on 104.7.

So, you can say Ukrop's not only removed Stern, but killed WVGO.

Nowadays, I haven't heard a Ukrop's commerical in years (maybe I listened to the wrong stations?). Plus, Elliot on 102.1 has not been snuffed out...so I feel BTLS will not get booted, either.

I listened to Bubba when i traveled to Tampa and i didn't like them at all. He drowns on and is very boring. I think he will have no effect on Elliot. Elliot is clearly the favorite in Richmond. Sludge wasn't bad though sry to see him leave Y101. but i do agree with waiting till the 100.9 Switchover to put him on. They will try to give Elliot a run for his money. But I think Bubba will have no effect on Elliot.

I think WDYL will just crush 1450 and force a format flip in weeks
