While I agree with a lot of what Orlando said to BTLS, why he stooped to Bubba's level is beyond me. This is what BTLS does... he takes topics and stories, generates conflict and then gets publicity in local media. Noting new here. Same song and dance. And by the way, I could care less what your ratings are. The shows and stations cater to different audiences. Get over it and worry about your own content and audience ....not the other shows.
I couldn't have said it better!
I heard this crap (that's what it is) this morning. I love WiLD, I've always had a great deal of respect and admiration for Orlando, and Bubba is, well, Bubba and if you're a Tampa radio nerd like me you sort of have to at least pay attention to him.
Orlando proved yet again that he's a loose cannon. I can not find any press on it but, awhile back when WiLD had the weak signal Orlando went nuts one morning on air too. He's a real stand up guy, but it's evident based on this mornings show and the stunt he pulled before that he's just as willing to go as low as the other guys even if he's doing it simply because he is a wee-bit manic and not for ratings like everyone else.
Why Orlando got involved is perplexing because if you listen to the audio from QYK (
http://wqyk.radio.com/2011/07/27/cledus-dave-vs-bubba-the-love-sponge/) Bubba and Cledus appear to agree to disagree. I mean of course Cledus can expect Bubba to carry on about it, but the two parties ultimately involved seemed to say "Hey, you'll do your thing, I am going to do mine." So, Orlando, CBS partner, friend of Cledus or not had no business stepping in. I do not care what he says, contacting one of Bubba's staff to talk about it, friend or not, is divisive and wreaks of a low down attempt to propagate mayhem on Orlando's behalf.
This incident this morning makes me happy Play is debuting a new morning show. Right now I split my time, fairly equally between WiLd and 97X because Play has had that idiot Perez doing bits between songs during AM drive, and it's irritating because then his Saturday show is just a pasted together 4 hours of the SAME bits. I will feel less guilty about switching over to Play to try out Kramer and the gang now.
One things for sure, this is an AWESOME time for radio in Tampa. You've got Hot vs. FLZ (even if you don't believe there is something there it'll be interesting to see what plays out), now Orlando vs. Bubba vs. Cledus, Drew Garabo on X still getting his footing, and now a new morning show thrown in the mix over at Play. I've never been more excited about local radio.
