So what will this mean for KUZZ/KCWR and the Crystal Palace? Will the Owens family continue to want to run the empire? If not, could we see a very vaulable package on the market soon?

In any event, I can't see KUZZ/KCWR being owned by CC due to FCC limits, but I bet the Crystal Palace would be a lovely thing for CC's Concert unit. Is AGM at the limit? I bet Buckley would love to have the stations and Crystal Palace too.
______________

Re: Buck Owens enjoyed his last day on Earth.

Buck Owens had one last dinner at his Crystal Palace Friday night, enjoyed making dedications and dancing with his guest, Buck went home and died in his sleep.
KUZZ has been taking calls all day from listeners and friends, Buck Owens was a class act on stage and in person.
Here is a NEWS release from the Buck Owens website

If you live in the Southern Calforina area KUZZ AM 550 can be herd in many parts

The Owens family will hold on to these properties. They have been the major controlers for quite some time and I don't see that happening. I just wish that we wouldn't start the will they sell rumors right after their family member dies. My thoughts are with his family. He was a true class act in this day of bashing everyone in the radio business. God speed Buck!

Please! This man has been dead less than 24 hours and all that seems to come from your post is "what's gonna happen to his empire"?! Good Lord! Show the man some respect. Speculate after he's buried!
______________

God Bless the Owens Family.

We have all lost a true Bakersfield Institution.

PS. Josh, that's awful. The Owens family will keep the tradition alive.

After hearing the news, I naturally turned to the CC station to see them screw it up and stay with their voice tracked shift. Surprised to hear morning guy Ken on the air, taking calls and doing a great tribute to Buck. Don't know if it was mandated or just their idea, but I thought they did a VERY CLASSY thing. KBKO has always treated Buck with reverence, honoring him on his birthday and such. Nice to hear Ken sending "prayers and heartfelt thoughts to the people Buck Owens Productions, our radio friends at KUZZ and the folks at the Crystal Palace." Class Act.

All things aside, and get it right that I'm not a CC or KBKO fan, Kenn McCloud is a classy guy, and even the biggest critics on here refrain... Wouldn't surprise me if he drove in to do that shift today.

On the other hand, no one should expect anything less from any competing station.

and just who would have mandated it? believe it or don't...
but the suits in San Antonio do NOT mandate programming.

ok...enough of that...back to Buck: FYI the Tennesssean (Nashville's
daily newspaper) front page this morning (Sun) is all about Buck.
and all 3 country FMs did some special programming re: Buck on Sat.

I know he did live concerts that were broadcasted on KCWR. Did any tribute things happen Saturday Night at the Palace or is something being scheduled soon?

Do we really have to turn a memorial post into another "look how great my station is" post? Ken is a classy guy no one will argue that, but Steve, you should have a little more tact then to take the chance to turn this into on-line marketing! It ranks up there with the "will they sell" post.

Re: Buck Owens enjoyed his last day on Earth.

The Crystal Palace was to be closed for a couple of days or until further noticed as announced on KUZZ
Bucks radio station, which continued to take calls on Sunday,
It will never be the same without Buck Owens walking the streets of Bakersfield,

Ken did a great job with his tribute. Wonder if KUZZ or KBKO will do some kind of tribute this weekend with the memorial.

I've never had a bad word about Buck Owens. What a class
act, and great human being.

It's such a huge loss for the people of Bakersfield. The love affair was mutual between Buck and the community. It's a huge loss for country music...another of the innovative players has been silenced. And it's a huge loss to the radio industry...if anyone wonders how good "full-service" local radio is SUPPOSED to be done, drive up Highway 99 and tune in KUZZ.

Thanks, Buck.
