Buckley sells WDRC to Connoisseur. . .

Is the HD2 back on? The whole HD setup has been mostly down for the last two or three weeks. It may not matter, because Connoisseur, judging from WPLR and WYBC, is no great fan of the technology and has no secondary streams running.

No HD2 would really suck since its what wdrc used to be like! 50s and 60s oldies.

Something is strange at DRC, for the last week or so if you are listening on a HD radio its easy to tell whos live and who is voicetracked.

When someone is live it shows there name like You are Listening to Kim and Mike, or your are listening to Floyd Wright...

Yet for Grahame Winters show and Rocking Ron's weekday show when they are "on the air" you see the file name of the voice track file that is playing...

Such at 15:00 -Promo-Tease or 5:00 TOH TEASE and so on.

While I have known both shows are mostly voice tracked, to me this really blows the illusion of live radio.

And if I may a complaint from this arm chair quarterback, (well actually a complaint from my wife...) a few week ago we had a big storm and schools were closed. My wife was listening to DRC all day and was upset that Grahame was not giving any updates on what was going on outside. When she called me at work she mentioned this to me and I quickly answered back that she wasn't live and was out of state at some conference. She wondered why with the conditions the way they were they couldn't have someone come in and fill in for her so they could give updates instead of making it sound like all was ok outside. I didn't have an answer for her on that one. :)

@Scott: It was this voicetracking nonsense that drove me away from DRC-FM and back to WLNG! It was so easy to spot the voicetracked shift with lack of time checks, somewhat stiff delivery and no topical conversations about anything relative happening at the moment.

I really hope the new owners give me an excuse to start listening to the station again.

Or about 90% of the time with WHCN-FM 105.9! Except for parts of morning drive or with Renee, it's pretty freakin' obvious that the station is on Auto-Pilot! :(

Hi folks, it's Diana under a new username (since I forgot the old password to my former username "dianablanton1984" on this site...). Anyway, I just wanted to add my thoughts in regards to what Scott G just posted on this thread.

I have noticed that Grahame's show and Rockin' Ron's show were voice-tracked too, but not on an HD radio receiver. Instead, I noticed this via the online web stream. That's why I do not tune in to that station frequently. Also, I have noticed on Rockin' Ron's All Request Saturday Night show, everyone keeps requesting the same songs over and over every week. I am easily burned out when everyone keeps requesting the following songs (just to name only a few):
1. "Everybody, Everybody" - Black Box
2. "Conga" - Miami Sound Machine
3. "Love Shack" - B-52's
4. any song from either Meat Loaf or Queen

Because of less variety of that show (late 70s through early 90s playlist, no 60s material), I've lost interest in that show completely. I've wanted to keep up with the conversation with fellow listeners during All Request Saturday Night, but every week it's the same thing, so for the past couple of weeks, I had to (sadly) tune out. :(

I don't know what Connoisseur will do with DRC-FM overall, but I wished a little bit more variety would have been present at least with Rockin' Ron's Saturday night show. Sadly, until this happens, I'm not interested in checking in to that show anymore...

Playlist depth was what made DRC-FM stand out from other oldies/classic hits stations. But the playlist took a -- pardon the expression -- big hit last year and, predictably, ratings boomed. Gotta love the sheeple, except now it's a new generation of sheeple who've just got to hear "Love Shack" or "Conga" every day instead of "My Girl" or "Happy Together." There isn't even room in the format for the annual music library A to Z blowout. Grahame said on Facebook that the feature had "run its course." With ratings up, average listener age down and, presumably, ad billing surging, there's no logical reason for Connoisseur to expand either the playlist or live DJ hours.

On the positive side, though, the HD2 is back and a whole bunch of deeper '60s oldies have been programmed into the mix -- "Seven Rooms of Gloom," "Twelve Thirty," "Too Weak to Fight," etc.

When will they ever stream the HD2? It's a great format, but it's lucky to get tens of listeners because it doesn't stream. And when the HD is off for weeks at a time, many of those listeners disappear.

I only listen to HD2 when I want to hear the old jingles.

For some reason they haven't fixed things and its still showing the file tags when they are voice tracked. I have been finding myself tuning out a lot more when I see this.

The HD2 has finally added song/artist IDs. They weren't synched properly last week (Example: "Dream a Little Dream of Me" was playing, but the display read "Sky Pilot." But hey, that's not going to drive me away. After all, they're actually playing "Dream a Little Dream of Me" and "Sky Pilot"!), but everything seems OK now. New liners have been cut to complement the vintage jingles, too.

Annnnnnddd ... The HD is off again. Looks like maintenance is hardly a top priority over there with new ownership that has a track record of not caring about HD waiting to take over.

Maintenance is absolutely a top priority. HD is down and FM is on low power today due to tower maintenance - the people climbing them can thank us later :)

Whoops, tried posting as a guest and I guess it's not very quick, but eventually you'll be seeing doubles... anyway - HD is off and FM power is low today because we have some brave soul climbing the tower for maintenance. Because yes, maintenance is a top priority. Thanks for listening :) - Grahame Winters

Thanks, Grahame. Shouldn't have rushed to assumptions. I live only a couple of miles from the Fun Tower, so you could be running 50 watts and I wouldn't notice the difference. Thanks for updating the HD2, the music is great and I like the new liners and sweepers. Hope it continues after the ownership switch. I've been waiting for WPLR to do something with its HD for years!

Could CBS had purchased 102.9 if they want to or would it made them over limit?

Dunno about being over the limit, but I think they'd only be cannibalizing WRCH's ratings if they bought DRC-FM. With its current music mix, I've got to believe DRC-FM is doing better with 25-54 females than males, who probably are listening to WCCC or WAQY. So why would CBS want to peel listeners away from its most successful Hartford station?

Could CBS had purchased 102.9 if they want to or would it made them over limit?

They probably would have had to take the 4 AMs along with 102.9, so that would put them over the limit. Connoisseur got all 5 and ever since there's been speculation - at least on the other board and on Facebook that they're going to unload the AMs. I asked if CBS could buy 1360 and the response I got was that they could, but they won't since there's been rumblings for the past couple of years that CBS is going to unload their entire existing Hartford cluster.
