Who Cares? Bucky Smith.. just a weekend fill in jock.. nothing special.. AND NOT MAJOR MARKET MATERIAL..

and he is good weekend/fill-in jock thank you very much, for your info he has been around the Atlanta market for over 20 years with the exception of the 2 years he worked at WNGC in Athens.

Again, is there any reason that this REALLY MATTERS??????? HUH??????????????????

Lilburn does bring up a good point... just because you have been in the market for 20 years does not mean you are "major market material" - it just means you have been in a "major market" - with very little success in Bucky's case

Bucky is a good guy, and a great radio man even if his career hasn't measured up to your standards. He has had steady work in major market radio for 20 years and counting, how about you? And as for the question of major market material, name five morning jocks (not shows...stand alone jocks) in Atl. who pass that test. And don't try blowin' smoke up my ass, I've been this market for a long time.

I'm amazed at how bold some people get in front of a keyboard... 20 years in this business is a feat, never mind doing it in a top 10 market. Bucky should be proud of himself.

Bucky's just a great guy--a first class person, and a personal friend of mine, and he used to work for me, and I love it when people I like and know do well. He deserves respect because he's never stopped pushing to be good -- always, I remember, back in the 94Q days, which where what--20 years ago now?--he just wanted to know what he could do to be better -- so what's not to like? A good guy, hard worker, johnny on the spot, always looking to improve, model employee, always positive. Yeah, that sucks, doesn't it?

I often am amazed coming on this board and reading the vitriol and nastiness that's mostly unjustified, and mostly from people who couldn't get a job on air at even a college radio station. I don't know what drives that sort of nastiness. For me, I celebrate when people I know and have worked with continue to scale and conquer new heights in their personal work search. This is true for me, even when they've BEATEN my own personal goals/accomplishments! I think it's great, truly, that good people can succeed. And Bucky is one of the good guys. So, for those who are naysayers, I....feel sorry for you....and wish you well as you continue your life, living in your mother's basement.

One other thing occurred to me just after I posted here--hope you'll indulge me this--when I was programming in San Francisco, Miami, Washington DC, I noticed that the bulk of people in the market were LOCAL to the market. IOW, they weren't "imports" from other places. Sure, there were morning shows, etc., that were brought in, but the bulk of journeymen announcers made their bones in their local markets, working their way up from part-time to full-time. There's a whole swath of announcer names on the West Coast that East Coasters wouldn't even know, because they've worked all their lives in their markets. Isn't that great, when you think about i?

Someone like Bucky, working hard to keep a toe-hold, is to be admired, not in any way ridiculed, for this reason. Our business has a way of eating us alive, and those who keep fighting, keep trying, keep pushing--I think deserve our respect and support. Likewise, the stations that hire them, in an environment where it's easy to deploy (note, NOT employ) voice tracking from outside the market in order to save $$.

I only wish there were MORE jobs for local talent, irrespective of the company you work for. I love who I work for now and have nothing but respect for them, and support them totally. But in general, the business has changed SO MUCH; it's wonderful when one of the good guys can make money doing what he/she loves. And Bucky is one of them. Good for him, and kudos to The Fish, for bringing him on board. One thing I know for sure is that they won't be sorry they did.

I never SAID ANYTHING ABOUT BAD RADIO....!  I Don't even know Bucky!!!  For what reason Would I have to say he does bad radio.. I have heard him, Hes not bad at all... I just made a comment that he's a weekend person.. Its no judgement on him.. Oh and to Craig Ashwood... I dont live in my mothers basement.. I have a extremely nice home.. I live a very nice life.. Im not trying to say anything bad about anyone.. I also believe that ANYONE who made statements towards me in a manner that is not nice, NEEDS TO maybe think about the first original post I posted to Rhubarb.. It was just a statement.. But I dont know why Im even writing to defend anything.. WHAT did I do that was so wrong... I just expressed a Opnion.. THATS ALL... NOW Can we move on to another thread?  Is that Possible? PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will remember that Im not allowed to have a postion on anything posted here.. For all who have posted, I know only one of you.. Tom.. You know yourself I havent been in the BIZ for at least 5 years.. SO lets try and understand .. I had a opnion and its mine.. Just like you all have yours.. I only made it to the majors three times.. I was extremely young, and it happened VERY VERY fast.. Now I realize that Radio is what it is..
For some it works, for others.. Not so much.. GOOD LUCK BUCKY..! and GO GO GO GO GO..
I dont even know you, but I just had a thought, next time I wont post anything.. Cause all you folks are so DAMN touchy.

#1. I know Buck personally and he's a helluva nice guy. Any one of us would be blessed to know someone like Buck. He's real, he's down-to-earth, and he's a hoot to sit and chat with.

#2. Weekend or not, being on any number of major stations in one of the top ten markets in the country AND doing it for more than 20 years, is more than 99.9% of the posters on this forum can claim. When you've done 20+ years of on-air in a top ten market, then you can gloat.

#3. This isn't Buck's first foray at the Fish. I believe it's his third time there. That tells you that they like him enough and value him enough to keep bringing him back. I'm THRILLED that he's back and hope he stays for a long, long time. Odds are he WILL and it'll be longer than Lilburnradio or many others here have been on the air in their entire career.

Long live the good guys... Like Buck.

I hope Bucky sticks around a long time too, when he leaves a station,he seems to leave on good terms. He may not be a big name like a Rhubarb or Moby, but he holds his own,he is on my top-5 list of dj's. If I were a programing director I would offer him a job.

Lilburn. . . . hmmmmmm!!!

lemme seee, someone says something NICE about Buck. . . YOU decide to rain on the parade ((go back and read your "major market material," line)))

then folks jump allll in yo sh#@t!! because you were Unnecessarily bellicose.

Then you whine like a school girl.

Ever heard of that saying “if ya don’t have anything nice to say. . . . STFU”.

Welllll, I might’ve changed the phraseology just a tad, butyouknowwhatImean !!

Cheers !!
