Bud Buschardt

There was a celebration dinner this weekend honoring Bud Buschardt as he retires from the ABC radio networks. Bud had a great career, starting as a director for Channel 8, then as an oldies show host for WFAA-AM and KVIL and as a PD for the ABC Stardust-type format. He has also been an instructor at the University of North Texas and continues to this day.
I was proud to give Bud his first radio show when I was PD at WFAA-AM back in the early 1970. He is one of the finest guys to ever be in the radio business. His party was attended by a who's who of the Dallas radio biz, topped by a great speech by Ron Chapman.

True, Eye, Bud is one of the nicest guys I've ever had the pleasure of knowing and working with.....a true pro and a truly fine human being. The dinner must've been give by Dallas broadcasters....certainly not ABC......from whence I retired after 24 years without so much as a Thank You. Kudos to Bud and best wishes in any and all of his future endeavors....

I was very much looking forward to being there Saturday night but just didn't feel well enough to make the trip up from Houston.

Bud is, indeed, a truly fine human being and a great friend! I look forward to that friendship continuing-on for many years to come.

Bud Buschardt being honored by the Texas Radio Hall Of Fame last year speaks volumes. Ira pointed-out that Ron Chapman made a very nice speech at Bud's retirement party Saturday night. That, too, speaks volumes!

Bud...your mom and dad were smiling down on you more-so than usual Saturday night.

Bud certainly deserves the honor. He has been very influential on and of the air, and taught many ,MANY of todays broadcasters who have gone on to a lot of major markets. Bud is rare in this business,no over blown ego. He is a simple person with a passion for music, and broadcasting in general, which is sorely missing and has been lacking since this century started. I have never heard one thing being negatively spoken about Bud. It was always Bud was there to lend a hand,be a guest, and most of all in the minds and hearts of others,a true and loyal friend. Bud earned the respect from his colleagues, and admiration from us all. Broadcasting was better off with him,now it has lost another rudder on a sinking ship.

Bud was booted out of ABC. They kicked out a true talent. Don't even get me started.....

Bud was talking about retiring as far back as a year or two ago. When it was announced that ABC was selling...he pretty much figured he'd retire once that happened. He did.

No doubt Citadel would have shown Bud the door, since they do not have any respect for talent or know how. Bud indeed left on his own terms, not thrown out. The man has enough experience and foresight to know when to go onto the next project and I for one hope to hear him again on the air. God knows you count the current good talent on the air with half a hand.

WOW!! Chuck Rhodes! What is he doing now? I knew a guy who could immitate his voice perfectly. What an honor for Bud.

Hey Bob,

I was quite surprised to see that ABC did do a retirement lunch for Bud last week. Stuart made a nice video of well wishes from many in the building.

He deserved it. He's always been a class act. I wouldn't have expected it for myself. The dynamic was different.
